Elia Kazan and Arthur Miller were good friends for quite a long time. They worked on films and plays together. The Red Scare destroyed their relationship. The threat of communism also broke them apart.
The Red Scare, and 9-11 had a lot of tragic events. The Red Scare occurred because of the fear of communism in the Unites States during 1919-20. America was afraid that of plotting in a revolution. On 9-11 The terrorist did not have the ability to destroy the united states military so they set their targets on symbolic targets instead , destroying both the twin towers, killing and injuring thousands of people. During the Red Scare on September 1920, on Wall Street a bomb exploding and killing 38 people, another bomb destroyed A Mitchell Palmers, and Attorney General home.
The actions of 9/11 and the Red Scare are in fact different. With the Red Scare it was Communism and with 9/11 it was Muslims, basically all Middle Easterners. Even though the date and time of the events are different, in both events men were able to step up and take advantage of fear and hatred to turn it into suspicion and paranoia. During the time of the Red Scare attack, the U.S became afraid that communist especially from Russia and China would spread throughout the modern world. The United States is a Democratic Nation and feared that the spread of communist would be good for the United States or the world.
The first Red Scare began following the Bolshevik Russian Revolution of 1917 and the intensely patriotic years of World War I as anarchist and left-wing social agitation aggravated national, social, and political tensions. During both historical events, Americans were faced with great fear.
In the 1940 's and 1950 's, an anti-Communist movement swept the United States of America. Fueled by the anti-Communist actions of Congress, particularly a Senator from Wisconsin by the name of Joseph McCarthy, the movement escalated and many people lost their jobs as a result of various blacklists. Congressional hearings, both in front of HUAC and McCarthy Senate committee were a study in organized persecution. The actions taken during the "Red Scare" were eventually given the general name McCarthyism. McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of subversion or treason without proper regard for evidence.
One thing that was similar was they caused a lot of distrust with people and because of the government. Red Scare made people be suspicious of each other, thinking they were a communist or trying to spread communism from Russia. In what happened with 9/11, people started not trusting the Arabs and Muslims that were in America.

Although 1692 the Salem witch trials and the Red Scare were over 200 years apart, The similarities are striking. both trials used intimidation, fear, hatred, and false accusations to ruin innocent lives. Both trials resulted in terrible outcomes, with both ending with innocent people being put to death and shunned from society.
It was called the “Red Scare” it was a time of hysteria that a threat was by the Communists in the U.S. Joseph R. McCarthy was the senator of the U.S. at that time and caused a lot of hysteria. Many people were saying that they were anti communists, and if you were had different opinions on that kind of matter then you were seen as a radical. In this time there was a case where Julien and Ethel Rosenberg was accused of being a spy for the Soviet Union. With all this hysteria already going on people started to point fingers at them. Even though there was no evidence of Ethel involvement in being a spy.
In a news article published during the Red Scare, the author describes the Communist red flag as symbolizing “defiance of law, order, and constitutional government. It is an insult to the stars and stripes.” It also states, “There is no room in this country for any flag but our own.” (source) The article goes on to say that the federal government must do whatever it takes to eradicate any forms of communism.
Salem Witch Trials were a series of prosecutions and hearings of people being accused of witchcraft, at which it took place in 1692 and in 1693. Similar to that, was the Red Scare. The Red Scare, commonly known as McCarthyism, took place from 1959-1954 and was a campaign that endorsed the use of unfair allegations and or investigations. The horrible rumors and acts in both events really made people fear what was going on around them and pushed them to act on it, which lead to if you were with us or against us, which came with punishments and or hangings. Both the themes fear and with us or against us, play huge roles and are major factors in the upsurge of the Salem Witch Trials and the Red Scare.
In 1692 The Salem Witch Trials started, it was a time when the Puritans, people who were strict to the bible, believed that there were witches living among them trying to taint their society. This ended quickly because the court concluded that the Witch Trials were a mistake after 200 people had been accused of witchcraft while 20 were executed. A long period of time after this, shortly after the end of WW2, in 1947, The Second Red Scare occured in America during the Cold War. This was a fear the Americans had for communists from Russia. The Americans feared communism because it did not allow private owned businesses or practicing religious acts.
To begin with following both of these tragedies they brought the world closer together and gave the world a sense of security and gratefulness of our freedom. There were many similarities that conjoined these events; which were the United States fear of immigrants and dissidents, production declines and stock market decline after 9/11, improved technology to locate terrorist and terrorism activity, and lastly deportation and arrests of alien citizens. After the Red Scare many Americans had become afraid of alien citizens and some even went as far as to hurt and shun them out of our world. The same thing happened following 9/11; after the attacks many Americans had become petrified of and began to harass and put out hate crimes against South
After we talked I decided to research what happened during 9-11 and why along with other incidents that happened in the 1900’s. After World War I and the Russian Revolution, Americans across the country, became fearful of the “Reds”. This group of people were Communist Party members and soldiers of the Red Army.
Terrorist campaigns were climbing in decades prior to 9/11. A group of terrorists attacked New York’s World Trade Center on February 26, 1993. The aim of this attack was to drive two bomb loaded trucks into the basement of a building to bring down both of the towers of the World Trade Center. The mission was not accomplished, but the attack did kill six people. The organizer of this attack was Ramzi Yousef, whose uncle went on to be the operational commander of the attack at the World Trade Center on 9/11.
This kind of hysteria caused the Red Scare, which was a period that Americans thought communists were working to destroy America. This mass fear of communism ruined people’s lives and made them turn against their own family and friends. Joseph McCarthy played an
