William Shakespeare, one of the greatest playwrights of all time, was the creator of the play Julius Caesar (Utah Shakespeare Festival). Shakespeare wrote Julius Caesar in 1599 and it still entices audiences today (Utah Shakespeare Festival). Caesar and his relationship with Marcus Brutus is a tale much like the story of two counterparts for this research paper, Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. With Tupac Shakur being the counterpart for Julius Caesar and the Notorious B.I.G. the counterpart for Marcus Brutus, Caesar’s friend who eventually ends up planning Caesar's death. Tupac was born in New York City in 1971 and was named Lesane Parish Cooks (Biography.com Editors). His mother and father were both Black Panther activists, his mother was in jail on bombing charges while pregnant with him (Biography.com Editors). Tupac attended Baltimore School for the Arts where he took acting and dancing classes, including ballet (Biography.com Editors). He even joined in a theater group as a member of the 127th Street Ensemble, a Harlem based theater (Biography.com Editors). One of Tupacs friends who he wrote music with often, Notorious, is in many of his songs and he is also in some of his as well (Biography.com Editors). After Tupac was shot in a recording studio that Notorious was currently in, Tupac quickly assumed that Notorious was part of the shooting and made many “diss tracks” towards him, one of these included a song where he claimed he slept with Biggie’s wife (Biography.com Editors). Tupac was also a dancer in the group called Digital Underground (Biography.com Editors). In the end Tupac was shot four times and died 6 days afterwards in the hospital of internal damage (Biography.com Editors). Tupac was also in many movies where he says something similar to Brutus saying he has a problem with his heart and doesn’t know whether to decide whether to kill Caesar or spare him. For example, Caesar and Tupac both come back and return from the dead when Caesar comes back as a ghost, Tupac does something similar and is shown at a concert as a hologram and even sang as the hologram (Kreps). Another example would be Tupac and Caesar both had friends that were there for them and helped them after their death and essentially avenged them. Tupac’s friend was Marion “Suge” Knight who was his studio manager and was thought to be involved in the murder of Biggie Smalls after Tupac died, this is similar to Caesar and Antony avenging his death (Kreps). There are also many similarities between Notorious and Marcus Brutus. One would be that they both were once very good friends with Julius Caesar and Tupac Shakur (Biography.com Editors).
