When faced with challenges, it is a sink or swim kind of deal. You either adapt your skills to fit the situation at hand, or you fail. This is the case for both Charles Lindbergh and Christopher Columbus, no pun intended. While on opposite ends of a four-hundred year gap, both of these men crossed the Atlantic ocean; one nautically and one aeronautically. Columbus and Lindbergh faced challenges, adapted, and in turn they both accomplished great feats.
It would be an understatement to say that long journeys hold challenges. Lindbergh and Columbus both experienced challenges while on their trips across the Atlantic. Lindbergh went through a multitude of stresses prior to his journey; a bad weather forecast possibly delaying his trip, a lack of sleep due to haggling reporters, battling the elements while in-flight, and the anxieties that came with navigating such a long trip in seclusion.(Charles Lindbergh Biography) Columbus experienced far more technical difficulties than Lindbergh. Columbus had been sailing a vast majority of his life; due to this, he was an extremely keen navigator. Charles Lindbergh was a man of many talents. He was a barnstormer, also known as a recreational pilot who performed stunts at fairs and festivals. In 1924, Lindbergh enlisted in the United States Army to become an Air Service Reserve pilot, and after he graduated, he delivered mail. They are also very well known around the world. Ever though Christopher Columbus is from Italy he is in American history and Charles Lindbergh is in French history for example “”The President of France pinned the Legion of Honor upon the lapel of his borrowed suit and thousands of messages poured in upon him.” (Ranfranz).

Lindbergh had many internal problems like one his son disappearing then showing up dead and he feared that he would have money problems throughout trying to achieve his goal. Lindbergh had to make his plane hold more fuel so he had to make a better design for it so he wouldn’t crash in the ocean (“Spirit of St. Louis”).
I believe that Columbus is a hero since he kinda figured about America. I believe that he figured our America since if he never sailed there no one wouldn't had known that America existed. Even when Columbus did figure about America he did hold some people as hostage to explore the area i think he just did that since he probably didn’t feel safe around that
