King Hamlet is from Denmark and King Fortinbras is from Norway. King Hamlet won the war and the country that won the land was Denmark. King Fortinbras of Norway has been killed in the battle and lost all of his land. King Hamlet died and Claudius became the new king of Denmark. A month later he had married Hamlet's mother, Gertrude. Then strange things began to happen at midnight. Marcellus and Bernardo saw a ghost that looked exactly like King Hamlet. Horatio asks the ghost to speak to them but it left without saying a word. Horatio tells the guards that young Fortinbras will gather an unlawful army so he can take back the land from what his father lost. Maybe that is why hamlet's ghost has appeared . The King and Polonius set up a met with Hamlet to Ophelia and will hide behind the curtain to see if Hamlet will act crazy with Ophelia; that way they will know If Hamlet really loves Ophelia. Polonius and Ophelia find them at their private pool, where Polonius proceeds to tell them that he thinks that Hamlet’s madness has been caused by his love for Ophelia. While her father is telling Claudius and Gertrude about his theory, Ophelia continuously tries to take the letter away from him. After finally giving up in her attempts to keep her letter private, Ophelia stands near the edge of the pool and imagines jumping in, which could point to suicidal tendencies.

Hamlet decides he must kill his uncle Claudius as revenge for what he had done. However, as the new king, Hamlet isn't sure how to get to him, so he decides to fake madness, but his plan backfires as Claudius doesn't trust him and makes sure he is always watched. In his fumbled plan for revenge, Hamlet accidentally kills Polonius, forces Polonius's son Laertes to seek revenge against him, and drives Ophelia crazy causing her to kill herself.
