Throughout the story of Macbeth, Macbeth’s ambition for power, provoked by his significant other, Lady Macbeth, and the witches’ prophecies consumed his life. At first he committed murder against King Duncan so he could become king himself, but the one murder had a domino affect. Although ambition can be a positive attribute for someone to acquire, Macbeth’s ambition began in Act One and proved dangerous as his death approached in Act Five. In Act One of Macbeth, Macbeth and Banquo meet three witches that tell them three prophecies.
However Lady Macbeth makes it absolutely clear that if he is brave enough, it is impossible to fail. These quotes show how Lady Macbeth is controlling her husband and she proves herself be the most responsible of Duncan’s death. Some people may say that three witches are the most responsible of the death of Duncan. Macbeth never considered murdering king Duncan until he saw the prophecies of the witches.
In our world, manipulation takes place in everyday life as a natural impulse for both men and women. In Macbeth, manipulation is centralized around the mask of ambition displaying dominance over humanity. Certainly the witch’s, Lady Macbeth, and our fallen hero Macbeth become puppets of Manipulation it self. Consequently the witch’s power to influence decision-making causes the initial deterioration of Macbeth, along with Lady Macbeth’s influential desire for the throne, and thus Macbeth use of manipulation to create a new embodiment of a mask suffused in ambition for his own cruel deeds.
This shows Lady Macbeth going through lengths just to become royalty and this shows she is ruthless because she is only thinking about herself. Besides, the idea of dashing out the brains of a child deliberately shows Lady Macbeth is willing to killing her own blood, which is cold because usually mothers have a stronger and more intimate bond with their babies. Therefore, Lady Macbeth is shown as a ruthless person, who is very controlling, however there is a shift in her character at the end of the play, she becomes weaker. In the beginning of the play Lady Macbeth manipulated Macbeth into doing things he didn’t want to do, by targeting is insecurities (his masculinity). But, now her persuasion no longer works on Macbeth, for example at banquet Macbeth was acting crazy and Lady Macbeth challenging his manhood by asking him if he were a man.
Well Lady Macbeth, who is dead set on having absolute power, disagrees with that. She convinces Macbeth to kill, to cover up the murders, and tries to convince him that these murders will get them to the top. Lady Macbeth calls upon the witches and states, “unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty” (Macbeth Act 1 Scene 5 lines 31 and 31). This shows that while in the pursuit of power, Lady Macbeth wanted it so much that she asked the witches to “unsex” her and make her more like man. But along with that you see the theme of gender roles are uncertain which ties into Lady Macbeth leading Macbeth in this pursuit of power, also giving him the ambition that she wants him to
After reading the letter she said, “Yet do I fear thy nature; It is too full o’th’ milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way.” (1.5, 15-18) Lady Macbeth is questioning whether Macbeth is too kind to do what has to be done to become king. She wants to be queen so badly that she is willing to do anything, but she wants to make Macbeth kill king Duncan. All of her evil intentions are seen when she says, “That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe topful Of direst cruelty. Make my blood thick.”
In the tragedy of Macbeth, there is much deception, murder, and sadness. It is very interesting how the story plays out with the many crimes Macbeth and his wife commit. They do get what they deserve, but not by the hand of a judge or a courtroom, and certainly not at the pace that they should have received their punishment. In Act I, Macbeth and Banquo had just returned from their battles against the invading armies of Ireland and Norway.
At the beginning of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, he initially presents the relationship between Lady Macbeth and Macbeth as mainly dominated by Lady Macbeth. She was the first one to suggest murdering King Duncan to fulfill the witches prophecy for Macbeth. She is heavily driven by ambition and it willing to go to extreme extents, she calls the spirits to ‘unsex her’ and take away her femininity so she is able to commit the crime without feeling guilt and remorse. Macbeth is unsure about going through with the plan and tells Lady Macbeth ‘they will proceed no further in this business’ this shows that Macbeth was heavily persuaded and almost forced into killing King Duncan.
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s relationship caused many chaotic outcomes, but in the end it proved to be fatal. In the beginning of Macbeth, the readers are already aware of the fascinating relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth received a letter from her husband about the witches’ prophecies. He wrote, “This have I thought good to to deliver thee, my dearest partner of greatness.”
Lady Macbeth, a deeply ambitious woman constantly insisted him of killing King Duncan and seized the Crown. Macbeth was being influenced by three witches and his lady Macbeth of doing such crimes. He was confused between right and wrong. He even had hallucination of the Dragger. Lady Macbeth was behind him for all those crimes.
Shakespeare’s Macbeth was written as praise and in honor of King James. In all reality, Shakespeare used his play to show people the injustice of innocent women being slaughtered because of the King’s obsession over witches. The character Macbeth is a representation of the corruption of that day.
This tactic works for her as she get Macbeth to go through with the killing of King Duncan. There are times where Macbeth is very hesitant in killing the king and but she uses her emasculating tactics to make him feel that he has to go through with the murder to feel more masculine and prove himself of his manhood . One example of how she uses this tactic is by questioning his manhood. Although cruel, this tactic works and makes her husband murder King Duncan.
