Having natural resources does not determine a country’s destiny, rather it depends on how the people use the resource. For example, Japan and South Korea are poor in resources but they are successful through other means (exporting electronic products). Whereas, the Democratic Republic of Congo has a great advantage of the Congo River, but they are still very poor because they have financial issues and enable to use the resource.
Some countries do not have many resources but are also very successful. For example, Japan has very little natural resources. Japan trades fish and electric products so they could earn money to improve the country’s economy. Muji, is a brand for daily life supplies. This store was established in 1980 in Japan. In 1980, The world’s economy was at a low point. Japan was facing serious crises. People at that time not only wanted products that had good quality, but also ones that had cheap prices. That was exactly what Muji accomplished. Now, Muji has spread through the whole world and is very successful. Muji has 270 shops around the world. Muji earned $2.35 billion in 2013 at oversea stores. Japan’s life expectancy is up to 83.1 years old; this is mainly because they spend 10.2% of their money on health care and they have an excellent environment. Japan is the fourth largest economy in the world, measured on a purchasing power parity (PPP)basis. PPP basis is the exchange rate of currency. The GDP was $4.123 trillion in 2015. GDP stands for gross domestic products and it is used to measure how many goods a country produces in a whole year. In other words, many people went to Japan to consume and purchase merchandises. But South Korea have few rich, natural resources. However, they do have advanced technology. For example, Koreas has invented a collapsible car. This can have many advantages. Imagine that you are trying to find a spot to park your car. You drive around the parking lot 5 times and finally, you see a spot! But the next thing you know is that your car can barely fit in the spot and your parking skills are quiet bad. I assume that you will be quite depress spending another twenty minutes on finding a spot that could fit your car. But with the collapsible car, you not only can shrink your car size, but it can also auto park. The car was designed as an armadillo so it could shrink to a length of 1.65 meters. Furthermore, it can spin 360 degrees so it can be park in places that is impossible for normal cars to park. In addition, the car’s energy source is electricity so it causes no pollution and is green for the environment. For every ten minutes charged, you can go 100 kilometers at a speed of 60km/hour.
