Both articles, “Benjamin Franklin’s The Autobiography,” and, “Abigail Adams’ Last Act of Defiance,” are documents that have a big impact and are both very significant because of their influence on our foundational documents. In the article, “Benjamin Franklin’s The Autobiography,” Benjamin Franklin talks about the virtues and character traits that him and others should follow. The claim from his article is that he strived to never do something wrong and want to achieve perfection, and also wants other to do so. He is saying here that the reason he started this project was to try and achieve moral perfection even if he couldn’t, …show more content…
In the article the author writes about how in her will that all her stuff go to the women in her family and a lot of her husbands stuff as well, even though he was not dead yet. In the article the author states, “Everything went to her grandaughters, nieces, female servants and daughter-in-law” (Holton CR 32). This is talking about how when she made her will she made it so that the women in her family would get her stuff instead of the men. By doing this she is standing up for women and their rights because she is giving them power by giving them her belongings such as money and jewelry. The author in this article uses a lot of ethos when talking about Abigail Adams. In the text the author states, “By passing this money on to Abigail 's grandsons, Louisa may have indicated disapproval of her mother-in law 's decision to exclude all male descendants” (Holton 34). This is talking about how Abigail’s daughter-in-law passed down money in her will to her sons instead of all to women. Abigail though would approve of this because Louisa is using her power that she now has to do as she wishes with her stuff. This is ethos because she is doing what she believes is morally good in her opinion. By Abigail sticking up for women 's rights and giving women power, she

They both talk about how women are just as much humans as men and that they should all be treated equally. In Abigail and John Adams Converse on Women’s Rights, 1776, women want to be given the chance to live and be able to accomplish the tasks and responsibilities as everybody else in America. In the letter, Abigail writes to John saying without the women’s works that men will not be able to keep a family. She also says that he should not put all of the power with the men, because women need power to be able to take care of the family and work to keep their family both happy and safe. Abigail told John in her letters to remember the women when he was attending his meetings to develop the new Code of Laws.
Did you know that Abigail Adams concerned about women's rights? She once said to her husband, John Adams ”Remember the ladies”. She was also a vital confidant and advisor to her husband John Adams. She opposed slavery and supported women's education. She helped woman’s rights become like they are today.
She do not mean to doubt the Gospel, sir, you cannot think it. This be a Christian house, sir, a Christian house” (Miller 1123). In reality, not all people do the right thing, dominating people manipulate for personal benefits, at the expense of civil liberties. Abigail accused numerous women, especially Elizabeth, for this personal benefit. While she was consciously aware that it was unjust to be doing what she was doing, she felt the reward was greater than the risk, and failing was a price she was willing to pay.
Although after everything that happened during the trials, she took all of her uncle's money and left town for good. In the quote "The truth doesn't cost anything, but a lie can cost you everything," Abigail's lies costed her the lives of many people. If she would have just owned up to the things she did, she could have saved so many life's. It's crazy to think that if Abby owned up to everything that she did and did not blame others for her actions, the Salem witch trials would not be as bad as everyone remembers it as. All in all, Abigail Williams is no perfect Puritan and she is mostly the cause of the Salem witch
Men should have absolute rule over society. This was the mindset back when women's rights activists were considered rare and unorthodox. In A Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions, Elizabeth Cady Stanton rejects the status quo and finds solutions to the overbearing problems she sees within society. A concept that has greatly been dreamt over throughout history has been challenged, by a woman. Elizabeth Cady Stanton exerts repetition, allusion, and pathos to express her opinions in favor of increasing women's rights.
This quote indicates that Abigail Williams is a selfish antagonist because she is lying about something that is clearly noticeable. Some people may argue that Abigail isn’t the only one to blame, as in there are many others to blame for the loss of many lives. Mary Warren also played a
Numerous women expressed their disapproval towards how they were denied their rights based on their gender, thus causing women to take a stand for their suffrage and rights. In a letter to her husband, Abigail Adams told him to “be more generous and favourable to [women] than [his]
Abigail Adams Letter In 1780 Abigail Adams writes a letter to her son, John Quincy Adams. When Abigail writes this letter, John is on his second voyage, with his father, to France, America’s ally. When Abigail writes this letter she is trying to prove that going on this voyage will have great positive effects on his life. She is effective in proving her point because she uses Ethos, Logos, Pathos, and other rhetorical strategies convey her message and meaning to him.
Abigail uses her own personal desires to get to what she wants even though many people died in the
Education was a big factor that Abigail urged women to have more of a passion for. An educated woman is a strong woman. She promotes that women are just as capable as men, and intellectual thinkers who want their voices to be heard. Since women had little rights for themselves, some women were against slavery, especially Abigail Adam’s, they saw how little to no rights slaves were given and saw a comparison of the situations and wanted to be that voice for them and those that joined her. John Adams had complete trust in her to be able to handle all that was going on in the household while he was gone.
While Stanton and Brady do disagree with how women are viewed and treated, Stanton’s priority was fairness in politics and education, not so much on the injustices that occurred within the home Elizabeth Cady Stanton was pushing for women’s right to vote and to participate fully in the running of the country. She shadows the Declaration of Independence to gain credibility and patriotism, particularly from the phrase, “We hold these truths to be self evident that all men, and women, are created equal” (Patterns,557). The Declaration of Independance and the Declaration of Sentiments are purposefully compared. For example, the colonists wrote the Declaration of Independence in order to inform the King of the unfairness and to take action and to make change. The Declaration of Sentiments does the exact same thing, only instead of the problems bing taxation without representation and the quartering acts, the issues were freedoms to vote, have property and own oneself apart from a spouse, followed by the promise to take action against the injustice.
Abigail, despite being close friends with Betty and Mary implies that she would hurt them if they said anything she didn 't agree with to anyone. This, among many of Abigail’s behavior in the story, shows that people will abandon the morals they have
Franklin claims that he has been living long enough to see errors that he made, therefore as he grow older, he tend to “doubt of [his] own judgment” because nobody is perfect due to his past experiences (43). The informations that Franklin presents is to show his reputation that he is not perfect, also his constitution but he is open minded and willing to make what is best for the people. The perspective errors of the constitution have, is being “sacrificed to the public good” meaning all the flaw that constitution have will not be reveal to the people (44). Franklin is very passion about what is best for the people and their happiness, furthermore his characteristic is very respectful toward the citizen and the congress.
