The Jury of Romeo and Juliet
Of all the characters whose actions lead to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, Tybalt and Friar Lawrence are most guilty because they trigger the chain of events that leads to the suicides of both Romeo and Juliet. Although Tybalt is most to blame, the friar is also at fault here. Both these characters in the play have an important role in ending the love and lives of the two children from both families.
If not for Tybalt’s hate of peace and his murder of Mercutio, he would not have gotten into the fight that caused the banishment of Romeo. This corruption is the reason for the lover's deaths and the reason Tybalt is the most responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. He actively tries to get “revenge” for Romeo’s presence at the party, a faulty reason, if a reason at all to put a knife through someone’s heart. This depravity leads Tybalt to kill Mercutio. As if one death wasn’t satisfactory, the killer comes back to keep fighting. After Romeo slays Juliet’s cousin, he is banished from Verona and is forced to leave to another city. Because the friar and Juliet are unable to communicate their plan to the bridegroom due to his absence from the city, Romeo commits suicide thinking that Juliet is dead. This provides Tybalt closure by completing his goal to have Romeo dead, but in the process, Juliet dies as well. As aforementioned, rage only leads to grief, and no one gets anything out of it. The indignation between the two families caused both their children to die, and the rage of Tybalt towards Romeo caused both his cousins, Romeo and Juliet to
Romeo and Juliet are from two different families, the Montagues and the Capulets, the two families have been fighting for years. Romeo and Juliet are in love. They can not tell anyone that they are in love or they will not be able to see each other at all. So, they kept their love a secret from everyone except for the nurse and Friar Lawrence. Juliet asks Romeo to marry her, he tells her to wait until the next day and send the nurse.
He, assisted by Mercutio, was the spark that set the Montagues and Capulets completely against each other. During the party, Tybalt’s uncle was aware that a Montague was at his party, but he didn’t mind; only Tybalt was bothered. Later, when Tybalt kills Mercutio, it sets Romeo into a fit of rage, resulting in Tybalt’s death. Romeo takes all the blame for both deaths since Tybalt is slain, causing a chain reaction that forced the Montagues and the Capulets into a seething battle. Tybalt’s own death was the beginning of serious conflict between the two families which subsequently caused more deaths to follow.
“What, drawn and talk of peace? I hate the word, as I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee” Tybalt of the Capulet family expressed this quote in Act 1 Scene 1 of the play, Romeo and Juliet. Also, the Friar failed in his spiritual guidance and gave into his cowardice in the end.
Tybalt wanted to fight Romeo for showing up at the Capulet’s ball, but Mercutio being a faithful friend decided he would fight on the behalf of Romeo. Romeo steps in the middle of them and Tybalt ends up stabbing Mercutio under Romeo’s arms. Out of anger and wanting of revenge Romeo kills Tybalt and because of this is banished from Verona. ‘“Therefore use none: let Romeo hence in haste,”’ (3.1. 190). One would say Romeo is responsible for their deaths because if he had not been banished from Verona he would have not been far away from Juliet and Friar Laurence could have told him the Juliet’s plan in person.
