A major difference that exists between Into the Wild and the documentary, “Return to the Wild”, is that in the documentary the childhood abuse is uncovered and told to the world which was left out in the book. These details were left out of the book because Carine had asked Krakauer not to include them. After learning about McCandless’s childhood, it definitely lets people understand him better because you now know his inspiration for leaving home and how it affected his actions as he grew up. Also, more of the family’s perspective was included, this made a difference because we know what they are feeling and their view of what happened to Chris.
