The ideas of the Sacred Place and the Center can be linked to one another when looking at the Aztec by looking at one of their most sacred and central placed. This place is both a center and a very important sacred location, connecting the two ideas immediately. The Center in question is located within the ancient city of Teotihuacan, which for the Aztec at the very least is where the current world was created by the Aztec gods whom sacrificed themselves to bring about the 5th sun. Before going any further it is important to know about the Aztec creation myth, as it plays a key part into why this is both a center and a sacred place for them. The Aztec believed that there were four worlds before the current one, and that we live in the world of the 5th sun.
The geometry used in Central Mexico is not less impressive. The construction of pyramids in Mexico show a more religious purpose; new discoveries in astronomy and anthropology suggest that the construction of the pyramids in Teotihuacan located in the State of Mexico shows an alignment with the constellation of Orion. Mark Cartwright in his paper titled Teotihuacan says that
We are all at least somewhat familiar with the Vikings. They were the explorers/adventurers from Scandinavia that are most known for kicking butt and taking names. Most of us are also at least kind of familiar with the ancient Egyptians. You know, with the mummies and the pyramids and the pharaohs, but does anyone know what these two separate groups of people had in common? They are both associated with a historical landmark in Cimarron County, Oklahoma. The Anubis Caves were recorded in 1978 by Gloria Farley, who was shown the anomalies by a local rancher.
The main reason the Aztecs built such amazing structures was to honor their gods. During this time period the resources for building were extremely limited making the pyramids a magnificent achievement that to this day baffles historians. They used simple tools, and had barely any knowledge on how to build them. On top of these extraordinary projects the level of detail was simply spectacular. “The inside walls were ornamented with either sculpture or painted… Blocks of stone which they carved were used to make a mosaic of intricate geometric design to decorate their temples.” (Aztec Architecture and Building) They didn’t just build these pyramids they dedicated so much effort into making them also look aesthetically respectable. The pyramids weren’t the only thing that was simply amazing. It got to a point where they needed to expand their land so they began building artificial islands. These are where most of the people lived and grew crops. What amazes me about them is the fact that they had no waste, everything had a use. “The most valuable fertilizer used on the chinampas was human excrement. With other uses, such as for tanning leather, the excrement was so valued that the city had a network of public latrines from which it was collected and eventually sold at the city’s main market.” (A Zero Waste Society) Their odd and
The Maya produced a vast array of structures, and have left an extensive architectural legacy. "Based on its architectural remains, Maya civilization ranks as in of the great preindustrial cultures of the world."(Document B) Maya architecture also incorporates various art forms and hieroglyphic texts. Masonry architecture built by the Maya recommended craft specialization, central organization, and political power. The architecture was a remarkable achievement because they built great pyramids, stone palaces, temples, ball courts and other ritual buildings that require lots of effort to make. In fact, "for the single home of a Copan nobleman, It has been estimated that at least 80 to 130 workers would have been employed full time to finish in two to three months." (Document B) This proves that the Maya peoples worked very hard to achieve this accomplishment which is what makes this
The mayans and Americans have many similarities and differences. First, the mayans have many cultural differences. Second, us Americans have cultural differences that they would call weird just like how some of us think their beliefs are weird. Finally, we have many similarities with the mayans. To sum it up, we have many similarities and differences with the mayans.
The Mayans, Aztecs and Olmecs were Native American civilizations that lived in Central America long ago.

The Mayans were people with no central government, and yet individuals worked hard to complete buildings for the whole community. The citizens of Mayan cities followed orders from higher political powers, which organized the work and maintenance of these places. (Doc B) The effort put into building these cities must have been unimaginable. The Mayans worked hard to construct many places without the luxury of having a previously established government and system to command over the people. Another reason why the Mayan cities were great is the amount of them discovered- Today, over 2,500 cities have been found, and all of them were built by people who worked with little rest to complete each building in 2-3 months. (Doc B) This shows the scale of this achievement- building all these temples and homes must have taken a large amount of time. The Mayans were also very intelligent people. Their architectural planning was highly advanced, and their buildings were mathematically sound. This means that the Mayan civilization was also very advanced. (Doc B) This genius thinking behind these buildings is what made the Mayans great. It is hard to imagine an average person today thinking outside of the box to create masterpieces like the Mayan buildings. The Mayan buildings still affect us today. In fact, some of the Mayan temples are still visited
When the Mayans came here the they were located in Mexico which were in Central America. There physicals features was the consisted of rainforest which were pretty rare for Mexico. The cities in the mayan words was more like we're modern day Guatemala, flourished between roughly. Now for the Aztecs they were located in the Tenochtitlan, but today Mexico City. Aztecs cities were mostly plane it was based on the symmetrical layout.Physical feature is that is was surrounded by the volcano, which could have meant it was mild temperature there because it was central Mexico. Finally for the Incas, The Incas were located by pre-Columbian but not Puru. The cities were was like sacred city laid out in the shape of a puma. The physical features
Both cultures beliefs were centred around their gods. For this reason, most of their architecture had some sort of religious background. The Egyptian, as well as the Mayan built pyramids; although their intention of use differed. The purpose behind the Egyptians pyramids were to be used as burial sites for pharaohs and the royal families. In the other hand, the Mayans constructed pyramids for sacrificial purposes, as well as for worshiping gods. In the end, both cultures constructed religious monuments through their empire, such temples and statues to worship their
With both civilizations being developed around 3500 BC, there are many similarities and differences between the Egyptians and the Mayans. The Egyptians developed their empire in Northeast Africa, which affected the way they farmed and built their cities. The Mayans developed their civilization in MesoAmerica, which influenced their culture differently from the Egyptians. The farming techniques, architecture, and religion were all influenced by the environment they lived in.
Everything was perfectly planned out. As the calendar says, they have to sacrifice one of their own to please the Gods. The Mayan people would get together as a whole to practice their religious ceremony at the temple. The Mayan and Aztec civilizations are two ancient civilizations that were located near Central and South America. The Mayan civilization was more remarkable than the Aztecs because of their advanced knowledge. According to Document E: The Mayan Number System, the Mayans created the mathematics that people use today. This is showing how Mayans are very intelligent. They not only created a language, but they created a math system that people use 4,000 years in the future. Secondly, according to Document F: The Mayan Calendar, the
They were located on the Yucatan Peninsula, which is today’s eastern Mexico. In addition, the Mayans lived there from 300 CE to 900 CE. Most Mayan cities had populations of about 10,000 people but their major city Tikal had over 70,000 people. The Mayans was known for building temples, pyramids, studying astronomy, mathematics, and creating a complex writing system. In addition, they were outstanding sculptors in stone, stucco and wood, they were also prodigious painters of murals and pottery. Most Maya buildings had wooden lintels over the doorways. I believe that it was impressive for them to create art with no metal tools or technology. Therefore, they used their skills and
The Mayan civilization was a Mesoamerican civilization developed by the Mayan peoples, which stood out in America1 for its hieroglyphic writing, one of the few fully developed writing systems of the pre-Columbian American continent, as well as for its art, architecture and systems of mathematics, astronomy and ecology.2 It was developed in the region that encompasses the southeast of Mexico, corresponding to the states of Yucatan, Campeche, Tabasco, Quintana Roo and eastern Chiapas, as well as in most of Guatemala, Belize, the western part of Honduras and El Salvador. This region is composed of the northern lowlands that encompass the Yucatan peninsula, the highlands of the Sierra Madre that extends through the Mexican state of Chiapas, southern
