A rebel is the act of an individual refusing to listen or follow authority. Rebels are characters who fight for their own ideals. They will do anything almost being malevolent to destroy the limits set up against them. There are three characters that established themselves as “rebels”, from the short story unit. Captain Torres from “Just Lather and Nothing Else” , The group of children from “Green Gulch”, and Nick from ‘Let It Ride” are characters that refused to follow vital human morals. In the Latin American culture, especially during a period of violence boys were raised to be “machisomo”which means tough in Latin American. In other words, it is a addiction. Nick from “Let it Ride” by James K Hickel demonstrated rebellious behaviour and a addiction to gambling within many events in the story. Nick displayed economic rebellious behaviour as a result of being a thief. The author stated that: “A huge sum of money was missing from Nicks account at work” When we look at this, it clearly states that he was stealing money from his company. He went against the rules of his workplace by lying to his boss and co workers. To continue, he refused to follow the law by robbing money. Theft can lead you in jail for more than 20 years, and can also result in having to pay a significant fine. Nick was also a moral rebel because he was unfaithful to his wife. Cheating on a loved one distinctly stated that he had no knowledge of social and cultural norms, nor have the capacity to perform good works through selfless actions. It was evident that he did this without contemplating the consequences that would occur. Throughout these events from the story it is clear that Nick is a
He disliked Martin because he perceived that Martin was wealthy and ate well, which Nick doesn’t do, which influences his point of view. When the author finally pulls back the curtain to show Martin’s true source of his appearance, he recognizes some signs of his mother and him being poor, which confuses but may give Nick an idea that Martin was not wealthy. He sees what Martin eats, which is only two things, which reveals that what Nick perceived was wrong. The narrative realizes this, and understands that he was wrong, which caused him to think
Dhani Harrison once stated, “You don't have to burn books, you don't have to rebel against teachers to rebel; to rebel is to truly own your own self.” A rebel can be described as a person who goes against a rule which they personally believe is amiss and fights for what they believe is honorable. Rebels take it upon themselves to make a change and stand up for what they find to be the truth. Alice Paul was a young woman who owned her own self when becoming a rebel in the fight for women’s suffrage. In the early 20th century, Alice Paul was a part of the National American Woman Suffrage Association.
No criminal charges have been filed against Nick although he does have to respond to the lawsuit leveled against him. Nick continues to plead his innocence in the matter as he pushes the blame on Bobbi Kristina. He claims that she did too many drugs and that is what
With Nick’s good listening personality trait we learn a lot about people from him as they have trust in and he listens. As far as understanding the story we can assure that anything told from Nick as the narrator is true. He is very educated and respected as he graduated from Yale and also served as a soldier in World War I. He keeps his education growing by also traveling to east egg to learn selling bonds to become a bonds salesman.
Nick still sees the class in him he believes he has that “natural decencies” that most classy rich folk have lost due to their sight of money. 3. “we shook hands and I started away. Just before I reached the hedge I remember something and turned around. “they’re a rotten crowd”, I shouted across the lawn “you’re worth the whole damn bunch put together”.”
When we see more of this behaviour displayed we abandon Nick as a likable and morally correct
The first chance he had to leave he took it. In all the disarray of that situation Nick just slipped out the back and proved that he can’t be trusted to be there when you need him. This neutrality impacts the
