In the play Of Mice and Men Lennie and George were the main characters. Lennie is mentally handicapped, and George was taking care of him. George and Lennie are people trying to find a job. They are best friends, and though George says he wanted to be alone, he would never want to live without Lennie. The costumes in the play really showed what time period the people were in, and I thought that they were made very well. The lighting in the play showed when it got day and night. The moon and the stars showed at night, and it slowly got brighter during the day. When a person turned on a light, the lights in the area would turn on. The conflict in the play was that George and Lennie couldn’t find a good job, because Lennie always
(Steinbeck 41). George and Lennie are characters from the book Of Mice and Men. George is just a regular, hardworking man who works on ranches. Lennie is a tall, strong guy with a childish mentality. George and Lennie work together traveling from job to job.
I think that throughout chapter five, both Lennie and Curley's wife feel regret through their actions, or their emotions. I think that Lennie feel regret on chapter five because of the fact that he just killed his pup, only friend, who he will no be able to pet the rabbit anymore if George saw what he did to the pup by accidentally. This quote“Why do you got to get killed? You ain’t so little as mice. I didn’t bounce you hard” (85) showed that since Lennie kills the pup that Slim gave him while he was playing too roughly with the puppy.
Does the story end the way you expected it to? As I was finishing each chapter, I was predicting what the next chapter would be about, my predictions weren't so similar to the book. Although some ideas were not so different but not so alike. In chapter 2, when Curley was snapping at Lennie, I thought Lennie was done for, since Curley was the boss's son. But it wasn't like that, Lennie stayed with his job.
Based off what the reader knows about Crooks from chapter four, the reader can infer that he would be the kind of person to join the NAACP. The reason for this is because he believes that African Americans do not receive the same things that whites do. In the text it states, “‘ This is just a nigger talkin’, an’ a busted-black nigger, So it don’t mean nothing, see? [...]
No matter how good we act or how humane we are, due to our lack of personality and abilities, we can never achieve what we deserve. As individuals, many people do good deeds towards others every day, but nobody earns what they deserve. Everyone is a good person at heart and deserves a better life than what they have now, but due to our limitations we can’t always achieve them, similarly to Lennie and George’s situation as they struggled in the limited world in gaining money for a piece of land as “all men dream of”, “We gotta get a big stake together. I know a little place we can get cheap, but they ain’t givin’ it away” (56). In addition, no matter how good someone is or how hard they work, they will never achieve their dreams because dreams
Of Mice and Men Essay Of course money and power is something so great to have, people often get caught up in their own world of making themselves happy that they forget about family and true friends that are much greater than money and power. Money and power comes and goes, while friendship can stay for a lifetime. Money and power is hard to get and even harder to keep it, while friendship is easy to find and easy to keep forever (Compound). Money and power will leave you lonesome and make you somebody you’re not just to please people, while friendship has somebody there to comfort you anytime, make you believe in yourself and bring the good out of you even if that means sacrificing a lot. Friendship is far superior than money and power ever was (simple).
Chapter 1 1.The first paragraph functions in a very simple way. He uses this simple beginning to set up a simplicity with nature with the simple nature of the two main characters in the book. This allows us to get used to the book and ease us into it. 2.Georgie is a small, quick man with a very dark and suspicious eye while Lennie is quite the opposite;a naive, unintelligent, big man. Steinbeck wants us to infer that since these two characters are quite the opposite they may have a lot of conflict, however they may form a friendship as well.
Of Mice and Men Essay Have you ever wondered what it was like to live in the 1920’s-1930’s during the Great Depression and rebuilding of America? Lennie Smalls and George Milton got the chance to experience that event straight on in the story “Of Mice and Men”. John Steinbeck, the author, includes many types of themes in his book, but I believe his story is trying to portray how the setting was a very difficult time in America with all the problems that sprung up. Problems in America ranged from the late 1920’s- late 1930’s itself, the Great Depression, and the newly upstarted “American Dream”. This time period was one of the toughest periods America has ever experienced.
This Presentation is about my view on Of Mice and Men. The book is interesting with all the different characters and learning about what they do all day. So I would suggest, read this review and then read the book. I hope you enjoy it. I liked the beginning of the book
The book Of Mice and Men begins with the two protagonists stopping by a pool. George is described as slender and tan. Lennie is descried as big and strong. George and Lennie are traveling to work in the barley fields. They left their old ranch because Lennie, who has some disability, had touched a young woman’s dress on account it looked soft.
John Steinbeck’s “Of MIce and Men” takes place in Salinas, California and the story seems to tell about two men in a partnership who share a dream of having their own land. George is small and his features are sharp but Lennie is big and has a mental problem so he doesn’t think as straight and forgets things often. At the end of the story George Pulls out a gun and shoots him in the head because Lennie had caused another problem by killing Curley’s wife. I think this was the right thing to do because they could not keep running anymore, Lennie had already caused too many problems in the past, and because George knew that they could not do anything about him anymore. Back before George and Lennie had arrived at this ranch, Lennie had made
How would you feel if someone you knew had a mental disability and depended on you for everything? John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men centers around two men living in California who work in fields bucking barley in what is assumed to be the 1920’s. Lennie has a mental disability and depends on his companion George for almost everything. Although George gives guidance to Lennie and tries to help him live a normal and happy life, George is more of an angry tyrant to Lennie. To begin, George can be called temperamental because he is often found getting mad with Lennie and yelling at him as if he is a child.
In the novella, Of Mice and Men, the author John Steinbeck illustrates a ranch in the 1930’s during the great depression where those who fit into mainstream society run the show, and those deemed “outcasts” are rendered useless. Steinbeck depicts characters with setbacks that diminish their value in the eyes of society, and contrasts them to characters that have no difficulties conforming to the norm. Crooks, being a black man isolated by his race, and Candy, a elderly man limited by his age and missing limb are examples of Steinbeck characters that experience hardships because of the differences. The poor treatment of Crooks and Candy by the other characters, and their chronic unhappiness in a place that doesn’t value them, comments on how
When anyone says the word ‘relationship’ the first thing that pops into everyone’s head is boyfriend, girlfriend or marriage, but there are many different kinds and forms of relationships. For example, relationships can be with friends, teachers, coworkers, ect., and there are different forms of relationships aswell like, mutualism, which is a relationship where all the organsims benefit, or parasitism, which is a relationship where one partner benefits and the other is harmed. In the short novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and in the novel Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom the reader sees the common theme of relationships, whether they be good or bad. In the short novella Of Mice and Men Steinbeck shows many positive relationships, an example of a positive relationship would be the two main characters George and Lennie.
In my first paper I am choosing the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck to evaluate the notion of being a migrant during the Great Depression. The two main characters George and Lenny must face the hard struggles of being a migrant worker facing problems such as: racism, sexism, and oppression. I will talk about the disadvantages George and Lenny appear to have that are truly advantages. Also I will analyze the friendship between George and Lenny and how they overcome the rough lifestyle of migrant workers. I will argue that although they were against many odds were truly never underdogs because deeply loving friendship.
