They were responsible for many violent acts that harmed not just the British but also the colonists. The sons of liberty were smugglers. They smuggled tea from south America and sell it cheaper than the British and would pay the taxes. So then the British made their tea the same price. The sons of liberty, then planed that there would dress up as Mohawk Indians and throw the tea in the harbor. Furthermore they also incited violence. Their first major action was in response of the stamp act. They all gathered under the liberty tree and hung a public official in charge of enforcing the stamp act. Also other offenders.
