Indian Automobile industries has grown rapidly post 2000 despite the fact of opening up of the economy in early 1990’s giving the much awaited momentum. The industry has a strong multiplier effect of industrial growth because of its deep forward and backward linkages with several major components of the economy. The growth in productivity and efficiency helps other sectors directly or indirectly to speed up the efficiency of other sectors by the help of factor moments of goods and services in the economy. For this reason the industry is identified as one of the main force of rapid economic growth contributing notably to the GDP of the nation. Automobile industry has a very high potential which has been noted at different forums to increase both exports and employment. Increasing manufacturing output and providing employment are two goals which are attained by the industry help. Through farm mechanization and agro-produce transportation, the industry also boasts the third objective of increase in primary sector i.e. agricultural productivity. It has been distributed in four categories namely: passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, two wheelers, three wheeler, covering 14%, 5%, 77% and 4% respectively of the total share of the market in the industry (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers 2007). The automobile industries has grown in group of inter connected companies, which are joined by complementarities and commodity due to its strong backward and forward linkages (Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises 2006a). The three main clusters situated in India are in Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi whereby like global vogue, Indian automotive sector also has its auto suppliers situated nearby to the manufacturing locations of Original Equipment Manufacturers
