Compromising Moral Integrity of Ralph and Tim O’Brian Ralph, from “Lord of the Flies”, and Tim O’Brian, from On the Rainy River both compromise their moral integrity because treating someone how you want to be treated, as in wen ralph treated everyone at the camp with kindness because that’s how he wanted to be treated, just like Tim O’Brian he also treated everyone with kindness just like he wanted to be treated. He honestly thought of everyone as a friend even the mean people, they might not claim him but he does claim them as a friend. Tim O’Brien on the other hand occupies himself to treat others like he would like to be treated. He also wasn’t really affiliated with the non-caring nor with the bullying. Throughout the story Ralph wants everyone to stay civilized, But alternatively Jack becomes obsessed with becoming the leader and starts to lose his way of society. Ralph tries to keep everyone in their right mind, but by the end of the story he realizes that people react differently and it is difficult to maintain society. Ralph tries to maintain the fire and keep it going additionally, he knows if he gives up the fire that he will start to think and act like Jack’s tribe. Golding lets us know that Ralph still tries to maintain society by saying, “He put the conch to his lips and began to blow. Savages appeared, painted out of recognition edging round the ledge toward the neck”(Golding 159).

Ralph, The True Leader In the adventurous novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, many young English boys battle for survival on an uninhabited island. While they were on their plane leaving their home, England, they suddenly crash onto this island. All of the boys meet up during a meeting and they vote Ralph as chief over Jack. This creates constant conflict between Ralph and Jack because they have totally different opinions on what to do.

There’s many traits that makes a good leader but the three that are the most important are being a good communicator, being well educated, and being fearless and strong.
