CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
Computerized Accounting Information System has been widely used by many organizations to automate and integrate their business operations. The usage of Computerized Accounting Information System has been a tremendous growth in service industries in recent past. The most obvious example is perhaps the Banking Industry (Kabiru I. Dandago and Abdullahi Sani Rufai, 2014).

The availability of internet facility has added a new dimension to the Banking Industry-Online Banking Services. It is generally believed that computers operations are precise and accurate however, the users could manipulate the system to their own advantage. It has been observed that the use of Computerized Accounting Information System has and is still imposing threats in Nigerian Banking Industries today.
With the rapid computerization of Accounting using the computerized system, susceptibility to corruption and threats have also increased to banks and has caused serious losses (Gunawardana, nd.). Computerized crimes easily happen to Computerized Accounting Information System and these threats, though obvious cannot be easily defined.
This research is targeted toward investigating these threats of Computerized Accounting Information System in the Nigerian Banking Industries.

1.2 RESEARCH QUESTIONS
The following are the research questions of this research:
1. What are the main threats of Computerized Accounting Information System in the Nigerian Banking Industry?
2. How significant are the effects of these threats on efficiency of the Banking Operations of Nigeria?
3. How can the identified threats be prevented?

1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The geographical area is Lagos State. There are fifteen (15) banks listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The respondents are the staff in the accounting department of the banks. One questionnaire will be given to each bank.

1.7 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This research work upon completion would be considered important by;
1. Nigerian Banking Industries: The Nigerian Banking Industry would find this research work useful by understanding that with the advent of information technology generally, security of information has assumed a greater risk and they are therefore susceptible to internal and external threats hence, the need to create ways to avoid these threats.
2. The Public: This research work would be useful to the entire public by increasing their awareness of the importance of computer literacy and possible threats that could occur with the use of Computerized Accounting Information System.
