Between 1933 and 1945 Nazi Germany made about 20,000 camps to imprison millions of people. In 1933, the Nazi’s built a series of detention facilities to imprison & eliminate so-called “enemies of the state”. The term concentration camps refers to a camp in which people are confined under harsh conditions. The Nazi’s set up their first camp in the wake of Hitler’s takeover of power in 1933. During the Holocaust, many people had their lives taken by Hitler. Concentration camps were absolutely horrible and horrific. I will talk about how concentration camps got started & what it was like to live in one. The concentration camps were created by Hitler and the Nazi’s to eliminate the Jews. The Nazi’s believed Jewish people were to blame for all of Germany’s problems. Concentration camps in Nazi Germany served many purposes. First, these camps were used to imprison those who were thought to threaten Hitler’s government. The fear of ending up in such a camp panicked many Germans, so they declared their loyalty to Hitler even if they didn’t want to be loyal to him. Hitler had no issues with the harshness in the camps. Therefore, concentration camps served the purpose of controlling the majority of the population because of the fear they caused.
