Abstract
Aims to explain urbanization in Nairobi through Burgess (1925) Concentric Zone Model and how the city of Nairobi has grown and where it is as of today.
Introduction
Urbanization refers to the increasing number of people that live in urban areas. It predominantly results in the physical growth of urban areas, be it horizontal or vertical (Science Daily). According to Little (2014), Urbanization is the study of the social, political, and economic relationships in cities, and someone specializing in urban sociology would study those relationships.
Urbanization in Nairobi is viewed as moving from one setting to another usually rural to urban areas and how society has adapted to these changes as a result of new

It defines how different social groups are located in an urban area. Social groups based on the socio-economic status of households and distance from central area or downtown. This model is known as concentric zone model because the different locations were defined in the form of rings around the core urban area around which city grew (see; https://planningtank.com/settlement-geography/burgess-model-or-concentric-zone-model).
Nairobi the city I grew up in is the capital city of Kenya. Its Central Business District resembles the concentric zone model with the most developed area of the city is divided into sectors while the dimensional display of functional service centers within the current city boundary has a Multiple Nuclei appearance where residential, industrial and commercial areas are strictly designated and people therefore have to travel long distances using mainly private and public vehicles and sit in traffic for hours n end to get to their various employment areas in the Central Business District that can cost an economy a large sum of money every
Skylar Yee Ms. Brahmst Period 3 English 10 21 October 2015 Analytical Paragraph - Rough Draft In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque describes how wars result in psychological and physical damage. The emotional and physical devastation is a consequence of the war. While the men who survive the battles are turned into animals, other men die painful, bloody deaths. Paul Baumer, the main character, enters the war voluntarily, eager to fight.
Ecological and Social Disorganization Theory 's idea is that a city is separated into circles, or zones, radiating out from the center. The center of the city is the central business district and as you move outward from there, the less problems or crime is found. The first zone, as I mentioned, is the central business district which is where businesses and factories are found but few people actually live. The next zone is the zone of
Then a filtering process occurs when groups like the middle class abandon their areas, lower-income groups filter into them. This leads to patterns of sectors instead of concentric rings. Both cities have similar sectors when it comes to economics, they each have a service and light/heavy manufacturing sector. However, they differ in that St Louis has a research sector and Cleveland has a Health Care center.
Beatty compares Montag to Icarus because they both started to take off on their own. Beatty is comparing society to Icarus's father, and because Montag is starting to think there is something better out there, beyond flying where he has been told, he is heading for catastrophe. The comparison shows that Beatty thinks Montag is making foolish choices, that by reading books he will end up unhappy and with problems, in a way that can't be fixed, just like Icarus. In all, the comparison Beatty makes between Montag and Icarus is an effective way for Beatty to make his point clear: by reading and keeping books, Montag has set a course for disaster, parallel to Icarus when he neglected to follow his father's directions.
The story, “The Bridge” by Edwin H. Friedman is a provoking, emotional message that explores when a person should hold on and when it is time to let go. Sometimes, we think it is our responsibility to take control when someone is in need, making all of their struggles their own. So, on top of your own problems and struggles, you have someone else’s too. Much like the story, we “instinctively hold tight” when someone is in need. Leading us to be left with no choice but to hold onto a person because “if you let go, they will be lost.”

Introduction As the world’s population continues to migrate and live in urban areas, planners, engineers, and politicians have an important role to ensure that they are livable and sustainable. But what defines an urban area and what makes it so attractive? In my opinion, urban areas are places that consist of a variety of land uses and buildings, where services and amenities are easily accessible to the general public, and includes an established multimodal transportation network. Also, it should be a place where people can play, learn, work, and grow in a safe and collaborative manner.
In today’s modern society technology plays a huge role in everyday life. Technology has a big position in education. Today students use laptops for school on an everyday basis to take notes, work on assignments, and research. Many people agree that, when it comes to education, technology can either be very harmful or very helpful. Timothy D. Snyder, a history professor at the University of Yale has written five award-winning books.
Urbanization is causing economic transformation in Africa, confirmed when we observe industry and services. Industry grows in more urbanized areas. Employment in industry varies from 6.1% in less urbanized areas to 26.1% in the most urbanized areas. Industrial value added is also linked to urbanization. While it accounts for 18.3% in the less urbanized areas, it accounts for 39.0% in the most urbanized areas.
The new place not only lacks such avenues for meaningful employment, it also lacks most civic amenities” URBAN AREA is that place where the density of human population is higher and the human-built features are vast in number when compared to its surroundings. Cities, towns etc comes under the urban areas. Urban areas are created and developed through the process of urbanization. According the census of India 2011, the urban area is defined as: • The places which are well facilitated; like having municipal facilities, corporational facilities, cantonment board or notified town area committee, etc.
