This paper examines the concept of green economy as analysed by the United Nations Environment Programme’s Towards a Green Economy, the World Bank’s Inclusive Green Growth, and Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development’s Towards Green Growth. The green economy is a concept which focuses to address the problems faced by environmental deterioration, as a tool to protect environment and help elevate global economic recovery.
Green economy is one of the important criteria that must be considered by organisations, to ensure that economic adjustments can be done to avoid disasters, ultimately reducing the possibility of negative consequences. As the world population increases dramatically over the years, the needs of the resources also increase. We make the goods or take the resources from the nature for granted and do not even think about its aftermath if the resources are being used up one day. Wasted resources is an issue that we should always be concerned about. It is not only happening to particular community or certain countries but it is happening to every one of us in this earth. There are few natural resources that we are abusing now but we do not even realize that. For example, electricity, water, petroleum, trees and the food.
Electricity waste is a common waste that is not only happened in our own homes, but also in many organizations, shopping mall and factories. Instead of opening the doors and the windows so the air can be circulated around, we might just leave the light and air-conditioner on even though we are not physically presented in that room. For example, the employees in the organization leave the lights and the air-conditioners on when they are leaving from the office. They do not care about the waste of the electricity since they are not the one who pay the bills. Another example, the housewife or the purchase department in the organization or factory do not consider about the running costs of the equipment when making the purchases. The explosion of fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum and some other industries flammables objects transmitted sulphur dioxide is one of the big issues that cause air pollution. The usage of insect repellent, insect killer and fertilizers in farming events has increased enormously. They transmit destructive substances into the air and cause air pollution. Factories and industries discharge a lot of harmful chemicals such as carbon monoxide that cause the diminishing of the quality of air.
