CHAPTER: 1 INTRODUCTION
In this chapter the importance of copper in different industries, sources of copper contamination and effect of copper contamination on mankind and environment is given.
1.1. Problem summary
1.1.1 Importance of copper
Copper is very important metal in point of view of engineering. It is very useful metal for making alloys. Also wires are made from copper. It is very important in electroplating industry and manufacture of dye. Some Copper compounds are added to Fertilizers. FIGURE: 1.1 USE OF COPPER IN INDUSTRIES
1.1.2 Copper Contamination in Environment
Water is contaminated by copper milling, mining, electroplating industries, some petroleum industries and refineries. Various industries like explosives, paints and dyes, pesticides contain copper in their effluent.

Copper pollution can is occurred in many different ways, either directly or indirectly. Copper contamination can be happen by different industries like dye and dye intermediates, petrochemical industries, and mainly from electroplating industries.
Accumulation of heavy metals in agricultural soils by irrigation of wastewater can cause the soil contamination. And this heavy metals uptake by crops and it can decrease the quality of food. By food chain the toxic pollutants can be enter to human and animal bodies, and create health.
Not only the humans but copper can create problems
Then the mass of the copper metal and the percentage of Cu were obtained and compared throughout different groups and a mean and standard deviation was calculated for the
The process of filtration can be used seeing as the copper particles will be caught by the filter because they are too large to pass through it, while the aluminum chloride particles are small enough to pass through the filter. In order to filter the products, one needs to obtain a funnel, filter paper, and a clean
Copper Transformations Prelab Questions Three metals ions are Magnesium, Iron, and Nickel. Iron is used in the sea with iron rich minerals, for substances. Iron was also used in the formation of earth.
Traveling from the U.S. mint into the hands, pockets, and wallets of citizens, ultimately, pennies will develop a dirty look due to daily interactions with their surroundings. In recent years, many have discovered possible solutions to restore the original shine of copper pennies. In order to determine what solution most effectively sterilizes our common pocket money, it is crucial to understand what makes pennies dull in the first place and what can counter this reaction. Over time, pennies receive a dark coating, creating a dull appearance.
NAME: Zain Choudhary DATE: April 17, 2017 455: Response #4: Partnership and Ethical Challenges In the article “What Went Wrong in Flint” by Anna Maria, she talks about a major public health issue, where the tap drinking water was contaminated with high levels of lead all over the city affecting everyone in the area. She tells a story, where families noticed that throughout the months of drinking tap water, they have noticed many negative physical changes to their body. People started to have stomach problems, losing their hair and developing rashes throughout the city.
Prove if the material in cup 6 is a metal, metalloid, or nonmetal, by using its appearance, color, state of matter, luster, conductivity, malleability, and how it reacts with HCL. Before beginning to test on the substance we observed its appearance, state of matter, luster, and color. The substance was very shiny, solid and hard, as well as silver. Then we put on safety goggles to start testing.
Copper is also a very important element in the medical field. Also, the united states penny was originally made from pure copper. Finally, the Statue of Liberty did not always look green. Copper was the first element manipulated by humans. It is now, currently still a major metal industry.
Drinking contaminated water can cause different types of cancers and also infertility and birth defects due to of the presence hazardous chemicals. Impoundments that have not been built or properly closed off have led to the death of many animals and also health issues in
Like silver, the element copper is also oligodynamic. However, unlike silver, copper’s
• N. Dirilgen, 1994, Cobalt-copper and Cobalt-zinc effects on duckweed growth and metal accumulation. Different concentrations of Cobalt2+, Zinc2+ and Copper2+ as well as Co2+Cu2+ and Co2+Zn2+ were added to nutrients given to a species of duckweed, Lemna minor L. the effects of these metals on the growth of the duckweed was recorded. A change in growth was not very noticeable until the concentration of Cobalt (Co) and Copper (Cu) reached 2.00 ppm (parts per million), where the growth of the duckweed was inhibited. It was also discovered that Cu and Co work together to inhibit growth when they are at a certain concentration, and at other concentrations, the one would neutralise the other, creating less of an effect on the growth of the duckweed. The conclusion the I took from this study is that as the
Copper is soft and malleable and has a reddish-orange color. Copper is used as a conductor of heat and electricity, and a building material. Copper is used by automobiles, light and power lines, telephones and radio, and ammunition. These uses are important for humans, and therefore it is important to mine copper, but it is also dangerous for the environment to mine and can harm the community around these copper mines. The top five places where copper is mined are South Africa, Chile, Western USA, Kazakhstan, and Canada.
1 Fracking and Natural Gas Fracking in the United States is a good idea because natural gas is widely used to fuel vehicles heat businesses and homes, and as energy for kitchen stoves and other appliances, natural gas; however, it is extremely flammable and has a tendency to be exceedingly destructive. Natural gas has been widely used all over many states, Texas, Louisiana, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Colorado use natural gas and the percentage has increased by about 7.5% in 2011, the total of natural gas being used in the U.S. has increased by 65%. Many, if not most, of these states use natural gas for their vehicles, their heating and many kitchen appliances. Manufacturers offer factory built, natural gas trucks, vans, Public buses and school buses, there are
The Ok Tedi Copper Mine Define the main forms of pollution and resource depletion and identify the major problems associated with each form. The main type of pollution at the Ok Tedi Copper Mine is the discharging of mining waste into the Ok Tedi River in Papua New Guinea. The pollution problem began in 1984 following the collapse of a tailing dam used by the company that was responsible for mining copper and gold at the site. By 2000, more than 90 million tons of mine waste had been released into the river and destroyed tens of villages, farms, rainforests, and fisheries downstream.
LITERATURE REVIEW What is water pollution? As the country is becoming more and more populated, the demands for social services have increased significantly. This has led to an increase of the pollution in many developing towns such as Ga-kgapane. The most disturbing and problematic forms of pollution in Ga-kgapane is the pollution of the natural streams. Water pollution is when there is a build of one or more substances in water to such an extent that it causes problems for animals or plants.
In this essay, the discussion will point to Nile contamination as a controversial issue and highlight some health problems which occur as consequences of using polluted water in Egypt. Likewise, the essay will raise some scientific methods to determine the percentage of heavy metal in water supported by example. Then it will suggest some chemical technical solutions to reduce the percentage of heavy metals in Nile and reuse it again for many purposes.
