The book I am going to choose is “The Scarlet Letter” this book taught three lesson that can better the American society which are Be Confident, Don’t Judge Other, and Be Humble. In this essay I am going to go in details of how this can better the society today. The first lesson is Be Confident, in the book the “Scarlet letter” The main character(A Woman) had to wear the Letter A that was imprinted in her clothing. She had to wear this because she cheated on her husband and the letter A represented adultery. Toward the middle-end of the book she didn’t care about the people had to say because she had a daughter and she didn't want her to see her as nothing else but a confident women but this wore off because she was confident for herself not caring what people has to say. This can better the American modern society because you shouldn't care what others have to say no is perfect and if someone is hating on you don’t worry about it because you have better things to do than worry about them. When someone see how confident you are then they are not going to judge …show more content…
They didn’t ask her Why she did it?, If she ok, If she needs someone to talk to? They didn’t ask none of this question just like in today's society the are quick to judge which is not good. They should stop doing this because as my mother says, “Don't treat others how you don't wanna be treated.” We as a society should stop judging others because you don't know what they are going through close door. By seeing if they are ok can probably give them a smile if they were having a bad day at home or even from
In the autobiography, “Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl,” Harriet Jacobs is able to tell her story and show the pain of bondage she endured. Jacobs lived from 1813-1897, and all she ever knew was the life of a slave. It is her story, even though she uses a pseudonym, Linda Brent, in order to protect her identity. We the People In the Harriet Jacobs book, “Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Jacobs shows the unique perspective of life through the eyes of a slave in the south. Jacobs shows the varying perspective on what having the “right” morals is during this time by highlighting severity of what would happen to slaves that tried to escape and showing how slaves lived their daily lives as compared to their white counterparts. Even without reading this book, having knowledge about how slaves were treated and the laws that surrounded the slavery era and post slavery times isn’t something that is taboo in our society today. In the book Jacobs was born into slavery and once her mom died when she was six, she was taken in by her mistress Margaret Horniblow

By the early 19th century, slavery was firmly established in the United States. While the South was undeniably pro-slavery, where the North stood on this issue was not particularly clear. Throughout the 1800s, many abolitionists and anti-slavery advocates were active in the Northern colonies and territories. However, the idea of a free black man still unnerved many people who did not see the positive aspects of equality.
In Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Harriet Jacobs, writing under the pseudonym Linda Brent, writes autobiographically of the painful and tragic struggles faced by her and her family as slaves in the South during the 19th century. In the following review of Brent’s work, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, I will include a summary of the book’s contents along with an analysis of its major argument and purpose to give understanding to the atrocities face by

The book was such a key milestone in the abolitionist movement as most of its target audience consisted of white people who were either already receptive to the abolitionist cause or could be persuaded to do so. The account, penned under the pseudonym Linda Brent, details Jacobs' fight for freedom and the various forms of oppression she experienced as a slave, including sexual abuse, physical abuse, and psychological trauma. The two concepts of slavery and freedom are heavily touched upon and juxtaposed in her writing. Jacobs illustrates the precarity of finding freedom in
