Confirmation Reflection (due: 3/7)
This quote by St. Paul reminds me of how I view my faith. St. Paul is saying that there are all types of gifts that people can have, but they all come through the Holy Spirit. There are all different ways to show one’s faith through service, but as long as it is service, people are serving the same Lord. The Holy Spirit works in very different ways in all people, depending on their background and their circumstances, but it is always the same Spirit. While the Holy Spirit may come in different forms, it always has the same intention: to guide with gifts. While everyone who is faithful has the ability to have all seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, not all will manifest themselves at the same time or in the same manner.

While the first thing I say about community service is that I “go every Sunday at seven a.m.,” it is so much more than that to me. I believe that in the moments when I do not want to go to community service and choose to go, I am exemplifying the gifts of right judgement and courage. Right judgement allows me to make the decision to honor my own commitment to service and continue to not only serve the children at the Italian Home, but also to serve God because he exists in every single one of the children. I show courage when I consider what the children at the Italian Home are going through and decide to go because I am a strong, brave, and courageous face for them to see. I believe that by using the gifts of the Holy Spirit, I am able to act as a servant of God, doing his work and being the best version of
Romans 12.6-8 also mentions prophecy but has other spiritual gifts listed. Serving is also considered ministering, such as with a deacon. There can be service of any kind that help those in need. Teaching is another gift that involves the word of God; this person must be able to explain the meaning, context and how Scripture fits into a person's daily life. The teacher must be able to be clear with his explanations especially with the doctrines of the faith.
All you must do is open your heart to receive the Holy Spirit and then you will be a part of this supernatural life of the Spirit. The power of the spirit can be felt, seen, and heard. “having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, WHICH YE NOW SEE AND HEAR” (Acts 2:33). The power of praying in the spirit amplifies everything you are and everything God has created you to be. Miracles are the supernatural demonstration of the sheer power of God.
I had just received the 7 special gifts of wisdom, understanding, knowledge, fortitude, counsel, piety and fear of the Lord, to support my mission and testimony. Although I am surrounded by the Holy Spirit every day, today was a day that I sealed the journey, through a mass with my classmates and a gathering with my loved ones. The Holy Spirit can be viewed by Catholics in many different ways. For example, the term “spirit” means breath, air, or wind.
I provide for my familial community by being a major financial contributor in my family. Also, my country, Dominican Republic is severely poor. Recently I got the chance to go to Dominican Republic and my family and myself round up many toys, snacks, and books to give to children. We cook a large meal and go to one of the poorest parts of the country: Hospedaje Yaque, Santiago de los Caballeros. In this annual event we give poor children and families a meal, many toys, books, and things that they need for survival.
Ways in which I depict service include volunteering at the Brian Adams Benefit to help raise money for a cancer patient whose family is struggling, helping clean up the Shawnee United Methodist Church property by picking up trash and helping with landscaping, ringing the bell to raise money for the Salvation Army, packing and delivering food at the West Ohio Food Bank for families in need, along with helping prepare food for needy families who come and stay at the church. I feel it is important to try to help as much of the community as possible, which is why I also volunteer at the Humane Society of Allen County. Showing a respect for not only my own community, but communities around my own, is something I pride myself on. Today’s society needs as much positivity as possible, and I try to provide that by giving up my own time for the well being of
Hart is a contemporary version of Dr. Horton’s very formal style. However, Hart combines the tradition of Pentecostalism with the reality of Charismatic experiences. Harts uses a dimensional concept to explain his insight. First he refers to the Paschal Dimension, Purifying Dimension, and the Pentecostal Dimension. Instead of trying to completely segregate Lucan passages to empowering references of the Holy Spirit and Pauline passages to soteriological or indwelling references, Hart blends to two together by taking both sides of the initiation – subsequence controversy.
One of the many actions that keep our nation going, that is often overlooked, is community service. Often times community service is required in school and in jobs encouraging people to be excited to help out. Other times, people
And with the power of the Holy Spirit transformation can begin to take place from one person, to one family, to one community at a
Through junior and senior year I have donated over 150 hours of community service. These activities include but are not excluded to being a teacher's aid, running concession stands, helping with the Red Cross blood drive, and tutoring my peers. This service has made me feel more connected to my community in getting to know others and creating connections to better assist in the future. It is of the utmost importance to get peers involved as well which is why I am proud to say I have had the opportunity to get quite a few friends involved in CHS and now enjoy serving with them. Getting involved in the community however, has also shown me that there are fundamental issues in society that we need to strive together to fix.
For me, from the moment of the election of the Service Learning Project, I didn't like the simple fact of having to “work for free,” and the idea was transformed into a boring activity to do with the mere purpose of completing the project. However, as I started to help at the food pantry, I became aware of how wrong I was and my opinion about the social service changed, I realized how the simple fact of providing support to the most disadvantaged groups of society, was very
As Roman Catholics, it is our religious duty to serve others whether those people are a part of our religious community or whether they are from any other type of community. Service is an important aspect of life for not only Catholics but also every single person in the world. By performing various acts of service in our communities, a person’s life can be greatly improved just through a simple act of kindness and love from the person’s heart. Not only can an act of service be beneficial to the person or organization that the volunteer is performing the service for, but it can also be beneficial to the person who is partaking in this act of service for another human being. No matter your age, your background, or your religious affiliation, service is a crucial part of our everyday lives and everyone should get involved in this and do a service out of the good of their hearts.
Assignment #2 - What does service mean to me? This is a concept that I have been considering in great detail. I have always loved doing community service and giving back to the community. However, I never thought of what my life would be like without community service. The definition of service based on the Oxford dictionary: "The action of helping or doing work for someone.
Beneficiaries called to ask me if I wanted to perform community service at a cathedral in Dallas, TX. I agreed because I like to volunteer in any event when it is needed. This event was called “Feed the Hunger,” which I signed up for and looked forward to because of my desire to lend a hand and assist the needy and unfortunate. At first, I thought this event was just one of those other community service opportunities that I am usually called to facilitate and volunteer my time. However, in the end, this occasion was a life-changing experience.
Community service does not only have a profound impact on our community, but the impact it has on the individual people is even greater. The concept of community service has always been something that I grew up with, and now that I am older I better understand how important community service is for society. I have participated in community service activities. Starting in elementary school, I helped feed the homeless and rescue animals. Even with my wide range of volunteer experience, it was difficult to find an activity that would be meaningful and fulfill my thirty-hour obligation for my senior project.
Volunteering is a way of helping others. It is giving a person 's time and ability to help someone who may be in need of help. Not only does volunteering help others, but what they may not know is that it can be helpful to themselves. It is a great way for someone to interact with others in their community. It gives someone that time to themselves while also creating bonds when they are doing the greater good.
