How does a book like The Hunger Games keep you on the edge of your seat? Throughout the story, the overarching idea that Katniss, a rebellious teen, is fighting against an overpowered and tyrannical government supports and moves the plot because due to both sides having unpredictable actions, the reader holds onto the suspense and has to wonder what could possibly be next. In the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, the author uses the person vs. society conflict and indirect characterization to show how if a person isn't ready for it, life can change at any moment.

Throughout the games, announcements that involved changes in rules or special events to intensify the games could never be predicted and would often change the route of the story. This is seen when Katniss and Peeta are about to win together and the Capitol announces “Only one winner may be allowed”(Collins, 342). The announcements made during the games supported the theme because it means that all of the hard work, pain, and suffering that Katniss went through to save herself, as well as Peeta, would be useless if only one could survive. The decision made by the Capitol, which represents society, shows how Katniss, our protagonist, was actively trying to defy the capitol and retaliate, making them opposing forces. Another quote that provides evidence for the theme is early in the book when Katniss is reflecting on the idea of the games and states “The twenty-four tributes will be imprisoned in a vast outdoor arena that could hold anything from a burning desert to a frozen wasteland. Over a period of several weeks, the competitors must fight to the death. The last tribute standing wins.”(Collins,18). The idea of the games themselves reflect on the fact that individual people such as Katniss are forced into living in fear and misery and punished when they retaliate. The corrupted government that controls the games
The entire country of Panem is watching from their districts and cheering on their tributes. The Hunger Games is a national event similar to watching a large sporting event. Katniss is participating in the games while pondering what the people of District 12 are doing because they almost always have people die immediately. “Spirits must be running high in District 12. We so rarely have anyone to root for at this point in the Games.
The mood is depicted as very grim and depressing because of the second hunger games and the political unrest within the government. The tone of the book is conveyed as being ruthless and violent. Through these two works, she has had a big impact on American
Science fiction in my opinion is often used as social commentary. Social commentary is defined as a spoken or written act of rebellion toward an individual or group; commentary on social issues of society. There are plenty of hidden messages from author. Take Susanne Collins novel The Hunger Games, for example. This fascinating story could work as a center piece on table hidden messages.
Just as we did in District Thirteen” (Katniss, 76). The essential purpose which Katniss is conveying, is that The Hunger Games is a form of entertainment where deaths are televised to remind the tributes of how weak they are by the government. Therefore, the games are a means of control and limits the freedom of individuals. Additionally, due to the government’s oppression, it declines to disclose information on the ideas, expressions and actions of particular tributes they oppose, individuals are completely enslaved by the center of control, the Capitol. Evidently, the Capitol denies to provide information from one district to another, simply to keep them isolated from another.
In the book Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins, Katniss Everdeen the girl on fire unlucky participated in a game known as the Hunger Games, which is a competition between 24 tributes 2 from each district, They have to fight to the death and the winner is granted with wealth and fortune. In the last book of the series (Mockingjay) Katniss has been part of plan that she had no idea about. The other tributes knew about it and wanted to break free from the Arena. Suddenly everything veered in every direction possible, Peeta Mellark was lifted into the wrong hovercraft and taken hostage by the Capitol. Herself and the rest
Human nature seems to be totally different in the next novel. In The Hunger Games, a male and female are selected out of twelve districts every year to participate in the games. The point of the game is to be placed in an inescapable battlefield and fight to the death. If a character wins the games you receive money, food, a house, and prestige. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are a part of the annual game.
“You 've got to go through it to get to the end of it,” said Suzanne Collins about her famous novel The Hunger Games, in which Collins delineates very clear boundaries of right and wrong. For example, readers are aghast at the Capital killing children and growing rich off of the enslavement of people. The protagonist of The Hunger Games, Katniss, does whatever she must to survive. Suzanne Collins’ sense of right and wrong may very well be a product of her childhood in a military family. Collins’ father was a career officer in the air force, requiring frequent moves and constant adjustments.
The Games involve a televised fight to the death among twenty-four children, one boy and one girl from each district. The protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, volunteers to compete in the Hunger Games to save her sister and becomes the symbol of rebellion against the oppressive regime. The Hunger Games portrays a society where the ruling class is wealthy and powerful, and the lower class is exploited and oppressed. In this world, the government uses the media to manipulate people's thoughts and emotions and suppress any form of dissent. The central theme of The Hunger Games is the importance of freedom, rebellion, and

The infamous Hunger Games story created by Suzanne Collins starts off by setting the scene in the post-war nation of Panem, where it consists of the gleaming Capitol, surrounded by the twelve impoverished districts. After meeting her fellow tribute, Peeta Mellark, in which she has a small, meaningful history with, they travel to the Capitol and train with Haymitch. In the arena, she forms many alliances with other tributes until she is eventually forced to fight Peeta.
Nobody wanted to be considered part of the games for fear of their lives being taken. However, Katniss stood up for her younger sister and took her place in the games to fight. Competing against twenty three other tributes from eleven different districts,
Collins has added all this elements about The televised Hunger Games without the reader noticing right away just how important reality TV is in this novel. What i have enjoyed most about this novel is just how important every detail in it is and the way the novel basically represents our
