Article V of the Constitution states that “The congress…shall propose Amendments to this Constitution”. Amendments to the Constitution are essential and allow for changes in law as times and values change. In today's world, I believe that there are many necessary amendments that should be proposed in order for the supreme law of the land to remain up to date with the values of a modern world. If I were able to propose the 28th amendment to the U.S. Constitution it would state, “Those serving in congress shall be subjected to term limits in order to ensure congressional turnover. Those serving in the Senate will be subjected to a maximum of two terms totaling twelve years, those serving in the House of Representatives will be subjected to a
EXPLANATION OF THE KEY TERM The key term that I have chosen is “federalism.” In Lee Hamilton’s How Congress Works and Why You Should Care, he initially begins discussing federalism in the section named “Why Federalism Works.” To begin, Hamilton begins to reminisce on his experience in Congress and gives a brief and rather broad explanation to it, but he he goes on to use an example that is more relatable to the average person: 7th grade Civics class.
Good Morning Vera, Thanks for inviting me to speak in your class. Other than my thesis defense, I 've never read my words out loud to a broader audience. I read somewhere that you wrote your desertion on Kateri Tekakwitha. In my memoir, I wrote about my experience seeing Kateri in Auriesville, NY at the Shrine of the North American Martyr. I looked at my mom all confused, because I had never seen an indian statue by an altar in plain view.
Established in 1789, the federal government of the United States is the national government of the nation, a republic in North America, consisting of 50 states, one district, Washington, D.C., and several territories. It is composed of three distinct branches known as legislative, executive, and judicial, whose powers are vested by the U.S. Constitution in the Congress, the President, and the federal courts, respectively. In general, Article I of the Constitution gives Congress its powers and limits. Congress is the legislative branch of the government, meaning that they are responsible for law making for the United States.
Distinguished members of Congress, we the United States of America, have fought two years of this war, costly in both currency and lives, against a group of rebels, who against the Constitution seceded and formed the so-called “Confederate States of America,” but for what purpose are we fighting? We fight to end the brutal institution of slavery, to uphold our constitution and moreover to uphold this glorious union of all American states. How, you may ask, do we create a nation composed of persons of many different beliefs? We must firstly handle the issue of those engaged in the creation and protection of those treasonous states, next is the issue of use of the land of the rebel states, and finally we shall discuss the fractious issue of
Congress give bureaucracies the ability to carry out their policies how they choose. This leaves the doors wide open. Congress does this because if the agency did not, then congress would be swamped with trying to establish how to carry out the policy. Another reason congress has the agency do their own policy making is that they have experts on the topic, compared to congress. Agencies know needs to be done to uphold their ideas.
I believe that Congress is a very important factor that links both the citizens of America and their government together. Furthermore, the connection between these two respective parties creates a form of checks and balances. I firmly think, without hesitation, without a bondage between the two there would be tyranny among the federal government, most importantly the legislative branch. Lee Hamilton believed that people were disinterested or skeptical in Congress as they were less educated about the branch.
The trend in congressional polarization overshadows the trends in public. While congressional moderates dissipate, moderates in the public “in the United States stands at its highest point in more than 75 years” according to polling (Smith). Many moderates ‘lean’ toward the left or right which causes the first problem in many polarization studies. Polarization means that constituents disperse from the center of the line to either or right into political parties, not necessarily radical, but many of these ‘leaners’ continue to vote on an issue to issue basis (Enns and Schuldt). Congressional polarization differs immensely; this trend appears more as sorting where partisans move to more “extreme ideologies” (Hill and Tausanovitch 1060).
The definition of law is a system of rules that a community or country set to regulate the people apart of it. To make a law, the first step is to create a bill. A bill is proposal for a new law. Once the bill is created, it must make its way through congress. There are two stages for the bill to go through.
The legislation consists of six major steps such as (1) initial proposal of a piece of legislation by a member of Congress, (2) the committees ' analysis of the draft, (3) preparation for the actual voting in Congress, the so called floor action, (4) the conference committee, (5) the analysis of the draft by the President, and (6) codification of the law and its enactment. Any member of Congress, Senator or Representative, is authorized with a legislative initiative of proposing the drafts. While the drafts are accumulated in the hopper, they also have to be recognized by the presiding officer during the so called morning hour in Congress. Any Senator can postpone the introduction of the bill until the next day if he/
Revising the US Senate... The US Senate is the least representative legislative and worst branch of a government body in the democratic world. An ever shrinking minority of voters has the power to obstruct policies favored by the majority of the American people. From the 18th century to the present, the ratio of large- to small-state populations has grown from 19-to-1 to 66-to-1.
Question 4 Discuss how a member of Congress represents their constituency in the following venues: 1. At home in his district A member of Congress represents their constituency at home in his district by doing legislation, constituent service, education, besides fulfill the political and electoral activities. Members may also have to travel between their district and Washington D.C. to participate of committees, hearings, meet with lobbyists, speak on the floor, interact with the media, along with the function of overseeing constituent services in their district. 2.
Essay topic: Explain why Hamilton and Madison called for a Constitutional Convention in 1787 and discuss the proposed plans. Discuss and describe the struggles and the many compromises that were reflected in the final version of the U.S. Constitution. How and why does the Constitution divide government power among three branches? America needed a new organization to keep it from falling apart, however America also feared a strong controlling government. Each state was so independent that they all had their own constitutions ,consisting of a bill of rights guaranteeing certain freedoms and legal protections to the state’s citizens, and their own currency.
“Our sense of self is influenced by our interactions with our environment” The interactions a person encounters are an essential part in the formation of identity. In Peter Skrzynecki’s poem, Feliks Skrzynecki, a linguistic barrier between the father and son is present due to persona, Peter’s lack of cultural identity. The poem examines the relationship with his father explores how he has a constantly changing identity as he encounters his surroundings. Similarly, in Postcard, the persona’s identity is altered through the interactions he has with the environment around him.
Certain behaviors are considered ideal when choosing a husband or wife. The parents of the bride or groom choose their son’s or daughter’s spouse; a groom’s parents desire a girl who will grow up to be good-looking and beautiful, because it is said that a man takes great pride in a beautiful wife. Light-skin, good teeth, and good height (not too tall) is desired. One of the most important qualities a groom’s parents desire is a girl with a sweet temper, one who does not become too angry too quickly. Faithfulness and hardworking are also qualities that are desired.
