The purpose of the Staff Ride was to provide background and context of the circumstances of the Civil War that lead to the Wilmington Campaign while conducting extensive site visits of the Battle of Fort Fisher and the Wilmington Campaign. Through preliminary study and comprehensive discussion of the field study, the class learned about the strategies, plans, battles, and leaders of the Battles for Fort Fisher and the overall Wilmington campaign, from both Union and Confederate perspectives to included successes and failures. Analysis during the Staff ride, integrating information gained through preliminary study and field study enabled the class to better understand the successes and failures of both sides and the resulting outcomes’
NHS has impacted my life because the organization has opened my eyes to what an honor society is. Like most members at first I believed that the organization primary focus was about the measure of one 's intelligence and persoal accolades. But, quickly I came to the understanding that the National Honor Society is an orgination whose beliefs are predicated on being a well roudned person. In life there are many narrow minded individuals, who only focus on one thing, such as money, intelligence, or success. But to be a truly well-rounded person you need to have more than one quality.
The National Honor Society, NHS, was officially started by the National Association of Secondary School Principals in 1921. It started in a Pittsburg high school, but quickly grew throughout the nation. NHS has maintained a long history of admitting exemplary students into the organization. NHS developed four main tenants that have helped guide the purpose, as Zeiger (n.d.) explained: "to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools". I have chosen to do the National Honors Society, because it helped me throughout my junior and senior years in high school.

When you here the name George Rogers Clark you probably wouldn’t know who it is right off the top of your head. Well he is remembered as the heroic Revolutionary War commander and that he also led a force of frontiersman through the numbing waters of the Illinois countryside so he could capture a British-held named Fort Sackville during February of 1779 (National Park Service). The capture of Fort Sackville was by far his most dramatic accomplishment. He continued exertions throughout the war (National Park Service). During the war he put a lot of effort into building forts along the Mississippi and Ohio rivers.
December 16, 1773 was the day that American history changed. George Robert Twelves Hewes was a shoemaker in Boston that was determined to help the colonies gain freedom from Britain. He took part in important events in Boston that led up to the Revolution (Young 33). Since Hewes was not a leader in the patriotic acts of the Revolution, he was quickly forgotten.

In The National Honors Society, there are four pillars that an NHS Member should exemplify. These four pillars consist of Leadership, Service, Character, and Scholarship. I think that I would be a good candidate for NHS because I exemplify these four pillars. First, I have leadership qualities testified by my numerous leadership positions across multiple fields. Another trait that I support heavily is service.
Accordingly, there are four pillars of national honor society. These pillars can be inside any person Who Obtain Greatness. they can uphold every inch of it deep down. These following are scholarship, leadership, character and service.
To be in National Junior Honor Society you have to have good character, citizenship,service, and leadership. First, I have good character. I take criticism willingly, and I also welcome recommendations. Second, I demonstrate citizenship well. Civic involvement is very important, and I have high regard to freedom, justice, and respect for the American form of government.
As an immigrant who has worked diligently to improve my quality of life, each pillar of the National Honor Society has contributed to my development and success. As a first generation American and future college student, I want to use the lessons I have learned from NHS to make my parents proud, honor their sacrifices, and revere the country that has given me the chance to improve my life. Service has not only humbled and matured me as I have worked at a children’s summer camp for five summers and have led church small groups, but has also helped me realize what I want to do with my life. My service, which has primarily been with underprivileged children, combined with my father’s chronic illness that I have witnessed throughout my life,
The Medal of Honor is the highest military award you can receive. It is awarded by congress and is granted to those who show bravery and go beyond the what they are called to do. 3,495 service men and women have received this award once and 19 of them even received two medals (National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation). Sadly, Louie Zamperini is not in this list of people who were awarded the Medal of Honor. Louie Zamperini was commissioned into the United States Air Force in 1941.
The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars; Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Scholarship is one of the most important pillars to me. Scholarship means not only doing well in school and getting good grades, but applying what I have learned and using it everyday. I know the importance of education and feel that I am a lifelong learner. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in a family where education is a priority.
It is a great honor to be nominated as a member of the National Honor Society. There are many reasons why I want to take part in NHS. One reason why I want to be in it is to continue to grow academically with people who have the same goals as me. I want to be encouraged, not discouraged by the people around me. If I get into NHS, it will give me a lot of opportunities to be a leader.
