Chapter 2: Connect With Others
Now that you know the working of a computer system, it is time to learn, how these computers can communicate with each other. With computer communications, users like yourself can exchange information with others. Network technologies can help you connect to other people living far away from you.
Brain Storm
Discuss the various ways in which you normally talk to others. Similarly, discuss the ways in which computers can made to communicate.
Lesson Goals
By the end of this chapter, you will be able to:
• Explain the concept of communication
• Outline the concept of computer network
• List the types of networks
• Explain the concept of mobile networking
What is Communication?
Before learning about the communications

Types of Network
Depending upon the size, structure and the requirement, a computer network is generally categorised into following types.
Good to Know
Special internet paths are used to help a computer to connect with a wider network.
Local Area Network or LAN
This is the simplest form of a computer network. It is normally found in a small area like in a building. A typical LAN shows a small group of computers connected to each other. The connecting media are often an Ethernet cable that can provide an internet speed from 10 Mbps up to 1 GBPS. Figure 2.9 - Local Area Network
Quick Bites
Around 100 to even 1000 computers can be connected in a LAN.
Personal Area Network or PAN
You may have multiple interconnected devices with you. Different devices, such as laptop, smartphones, and tablet, are often connected using a wireless medium. This type of network is called as the Personal Area Network or PAN. Figure 2.10 – Using a Personal Area Network
Good to Know
The range of a PAN differs for multiple individuals and it can also be connected to other wider
1.3 How do local area networks (LANs) differ from wide area networks (WANs) and backbone networks (BNs) Local area networks are limited within an organization Wide area networks extend over a large geographical distance and may be privately owned or rented Backbone network are the part of network infrastructure that feeds the connected networks 1.8 Describe the seven layers in the OSI network model and what they do. Application – this layer is specific to applications and provides services such as email, network software services and file transfers Presentation - In this layer, the data is formatted in a schema that network understands, and also manages data encryption and decryption Session – this layer establishes and controls the data communication between

Interconnection devices 1.interconnection devices allow connection between devices examples of these are such as router, switch, wireless access points. 2.A wireless repeater resends a signal when it is received to increase the wireless signals reach. 3.A hub receives data and transmits it to all connected PCs but a switch stores the mac address for all connected pcs so will only transmit to specific PCs not all that are connected. 4.a network bridge connects two or more networks together and is similar to a switch because it sends the correct information to each connected pc .it can be hardware or software.
Wifi WPS: It stands for “Wi-Fi Protected Setup” and provides simplified mechanisms to configure secure wireless
Both types of networks provide network services using operating systems that can communicate with each other through common protocols. Each of these networks enables control of how users and programs get access to resources. Also, clients in a client server network and nodes or hosts in a peer-to-peer network use any combination of desktop, mobile, or tablet operating systems. 2. Discuss the difference between a physical topology and a logical topology.
For this particular task, I will be explaining what key components are necessary for client workstations to connect to a network and how to access network resources. I will be explaining the key features and functions of each of these components in relative detail. Network Devices: These are mechanisms used to connect computers and other electronic devices together so they can exchange and share files or special resources like printers or fax machines used in big organisations. LAN is the main type of network device used by the community.
Sharing Internet Access: within a computer network learners are able to access the internet at once. Speed: Using a network is a faster way for sharing and transferring files. Without a network, files are shared by replicating them to a floppy disk. Cost: Networkable versions of many popular software programmes are available at significant savings compared to buying individual licensed copies. It also allows easier upgrading of the program.

Q 5 – Explain how diversity impacts on practices and experiences on person behaviour, interpersonal relationships, perception and social expectations of others. A – Acknowledge similarities and differences that exist between yourself, co-workers and clients. Culture plays an important part in a person’s behaviour, thoughts and how they relate towards others. An individual's cultural perceptions and expectations will directly impact on the way they work with each client and their co-workers; a failure to recognise cultural differences may cause serious problems when they are dealing with others in the workplace.
Fundamentals of Networking IT204-1701A-03 Unit 1 Discussion Board 2 Andrew LeLusche Professor Gregory Roby Colorado Technical University 1/6/2017 Fundamentals of Networking IT204-1701A-03 Unit 1 Discussion Board 2 In order to choose the correct network for your needs, it is important to first understand the differences, advantages, and disadvantages between a peer to peer network and a client/server network. Whether you are a family home, a mom and pop shop, a data center or large corporation- there is a network for your needs. A network is a system of operating machines that allows a user to access an interface suitable for creating and saving documents, access webpages and video/audio content, run administrative programs to serve clients based on whatever business model or service provider you are. First let’s discuss a peer to peer network.
By definition, computer-mediated communication (CMC) is communication about or by means of computer technology (Thurlow, Lengel, & Tomic, 2004). The transition of computers from highly specialized technology to personal possessions contributed to the increase in investigations relating to CMC (Thurlow, Lengel, & Tomic, 2004). The study of CMC has been widely applied, allowing for discussions of all forms of human communication via the means of a computer. Some of those disciplines through which CMC has been studied include psychology (Gackenbach & Ellerman, 1998; Kiesler, Siegel, & McGuire, 1984), politics (Dahlberg, 2001; Hacker & van Dijk, 2000), and education (Berge & Collins, 1995; McComb, 1994). In addition, CMC has also been widely studied
This report is going to discuss an interpersonal conflict I encountered. In this paper, there is a brief description of the conflict followed by an analysis on the causes and reflections. Conflict description The conflict took place in the school general office when I was submitting a document. When the office called to remind me that a document was needed.
Loneliness in Older Adults: An Embodied Experience by Judith M. Smith is a journal of Gerontological nursing that explores the bodily effects of loneliness on the older adult population. This journal presents the reader with research and recounts from individuals who experience their everyday loneliness that is expressed through their bodies in various ways. These embodying experiences hold back those individual’s from participating in activities they love or allowing them to enjoy their everyday lives. Gerontological nurses can alter these experiences using two specific interventions, music therapy and animal-assisted therapy, to actively reduce loneliness in the older adult population, ultimately creating a whole and healing environment at all levels. The first key point of the study was the discovery that many older adults experienced loneliness when they were unable to have purposeful interactions with their friends and family due to a limiting health conditions, such as hearing or vision impairment.
Jerquan Stewart Essay 2 11/15/17 The differences between loneliness and isolation is that loneliness is when you don 't have any friends or family and just alone and isolation is when you choose to be by yourself , as in isolating yourself from everything. Being lonely has to deal with both social barriers and isolation is just dealing with personal choice. Most people enjoy loneliness rather than isolation because isolation is something that someone choose to do and no-one wants to be lonely so it 's most likely that people will avoid being lonely. Isolation have to deal with a lot of canceling out and being by themselves or choosing to be by themselves , and also its because they have to be lonely so they can focus on what they want to do or what goal they
People whom are on Social Media are twice as likely to feel isolated. As the internet has grown people are seeing it in different light. The name “Social Media” was give as these sites were to bring people together and make them more included in today’s society. Experts on the topic say that in certain areas it’s quite helpful, while others argue how it’s keeping the younger generation away from face to face socializing and making them far more isolated. People feel more inclined to share opinions about SM because of its high impact on today’s online age.
For the first part of this assignment I was required to report on how I saw myself as a communicator. In this second half, I have interviewed my mom, boyfriend and a new friend I made last semester to see how I communicate with others. Listening My Mom claimed I have selective hearing.
