Hornby (2016) mentions using Circle Time which is an evidence-based program used as a procedure from preschool to the high school level. This technique promotes positive relationships in the classroom, promotes social and emotional development, and increases students’ self-esteem and self-confidence. There are many things schools can do to reduce and help prevent bullying. Bullying interventions to be successful, schools need to be committed to creating a safe and positive social environment in which students can learn and develop. They also need to work with students and parents to develop a comprehensive policy on bullying that clearly defines bullying, and implements this policy throughout the school and community.
According to National Bullying Prevention Centre one out of every four students (22%) reported being bullied in the past year. 64 percent of kids who were bullied did not report it to anyone. Bullying in school can effect a lot of people, if someone starts bullying the bystanders can also get effects from bullying, such as not sleeping and feeling worried it might happen to them. In schools bullying happens more often to teenagers as they spend a lot of time with their peers. In school a student will tease or discriminate another student by either their gender, race, religion, body size or many other things.
For older children and young people, bullying could be a more severe problem such as threatening behaviour, physical behaviour such as hitting, kicking and verbally hurtful behaviour this type of bullying can then be dealt with by the form teacher or head of year/head teacher. Bullying has been named an “emerging public health issue requiring intervention” (Ansary, Elias, Greene, & Green, 2015, p. 27). As a major problem in schools around the world, the issue of bullying must be addressed in order to keep students physically and emotionally safe. The act of bullying not only affects the well-being of the person being targeted, but it also affects the rest of the school community too. It can be difficult for teachers, principals, and superintendents to make an ethical decision about what to do when bullying occurs because there are misunderstandings about what bullying is, leading to the improper identification of situations. Often times bullying occurs when adults are not around, which makes it one student’s word against another.
Students with money and power tend to harm other students and cease their dignity for the entire school life. They usually put a target at someone who is quiet; have low self-esteem and ones who look weak to them. Bullying is not something new in our society. The act of bullying is defined to as any ill behaviour that is repeated by one student or group of students toward another, leaving that person helpless. The school bullying also takes different forms, it can be verbal such as hitting, kicking, slapping, tripping, pinching or damaging property.
The forms of punishment of such an incidence are not carried out well. i made identification that there was no detention for pupils who misbehave but instead these pupils names get written in the school’s book of records. By performing this act they wait upon the governing body of the school to attend to the issue whenever the governing body is available to do so. Through the interviews with the pupils and staff members we identified some contributors to bullying which were the causes of bullying, the impacts of bullying and the types of bullying in the school. This project will impact the school community in a sense that the school pupils will be more aware and be on the lookout for bullying and not ignore the bullying situation and report it with immediate effect.
Actions Against Bullying Bullying is a serious problem in today 's world, and more than 28% of people in grades six through twelve have been bullied. Over a fourth of kids in an age range of sixth through twelfth grade have experienced some form of bullying. This means that more actions should be taken against bullying, due to the number of people who have been or have witnessed bullying. Such actions must be taken, in response to the mental and emotional effects on the victim. The number of people who have either witnessed, been bullied, or bullied others are through the roof.
PBLA Assignment Three Throughout the world, bullying has increased rapidly over the years. Bullying has been around for many years, and has caused many issues: suicidal attempts, depression, and emotional outrage. While in elementary school, I do not remember gaining knowledge about bullying, and the negative impacts it has on others. However, I have seen loved ones suffer from bullying, and attended funerals of loved ones whom committed suicide. So, therefore, bullying has impacted this world in a negative way, which allows us to fight for the stop of bullying.
However, bullying still is a huge problem for schools all around, and it’s still needing to be addressed to this day. Laws and rules are still good to have, but kids also learn from watching. Watching their parents, and teachers, they watch every move, and they learn from it. If they see a teacher mistreating a student who is different in some way, then others will mistreat them as well. Everyone says our actions speak louder than words, and that is true.
