ORGANIZATIONAL SET-UP OF CONSUMER FORAS:
Consumer protection laws in India enable an insurance consumer to dispute a case against an insurance provider if there has been a deficiency on their part. Deficiency in insurance services arises when there is a default or negligence on the provider’s part to settle a claim. An unreasonable delay in making the payment on a claim also amounts to deficiency of services.
Government of India has framed a set of laws and legislations to protect the interests of consumers and the most important act framed by Govt, is Consumer Protection Act, 1986. This Act has provided three tier redressal agencies, i.e. District Forum, National Commission and State Commission. In India, it has to be a social movement wherein

In fact, insurers tend to find ways to reduce the claim amount or avoid making a settlement altogether but consumer protection laws seek to protect consumers from such deficiencies in insurance services. The Consumer Protection Act, 1986, is a central government act applicable in all states of India, to provide for the protection of the interests of consumers (including investors). If there is any deficiency in services by any insurance service provider, the insured can approach consumer courts/ forums for speedy resolving of matters. A Consumer does not include a person who obtains any goods or service for resale. Also, consumer courts cannot entertain issues of rates or fees charged by a …show more content…
Besides, a phenomenal increase in reporting of grievances, a significant improvement was seen in redressal, too. After IGMS was put in place, ‘complaints’ were given a clear definition by the regulator. These largely include issues related to insurers’ promise of delivery. With IGMS, every complaint is getting registered and addressed, leading to a massive jump in the indicated number. Online filing of complaints is a great initiative by these respective regulators and watchdogs but steps should be taken to publicize it and make websites more robust and user friendly. There are also several loopholes in the way complaints are handled. Many a times the complaints may not be resolved to the satisfaction of the
Furthermore, the Union could not claim their representation is the norm at Balt. Sun Co. because other divisions had separate union representation, and some employees were not represented by a union at
The birth of the Bureau of Indian Affairs signaled the beginning of a series of extermination and assimilation policies directed towards the native tribal nations, leaving a devastating impact on the Native American legacy. In an official apology on behalf of the BIA given at its 175th anniversary, Kevin Gover stated that “from the very beginning, the Office of Indian Affairs was an instrument by which the United States enforced its ambition against the Indian nations.” The interest of the Indian people was never the goal of the agency despite its title, and the real purpose of its foundation had always been the removal of Indian problems by forced policies. John Collier, the Commissioner of Indian affairs appointed By FDR, aimed to improve
Parliament’s unpopular passage of the Sugar Act and Quartering Act came with little backlash from the colonists when in comparison to the Stamp Act (Schultz, 2011, p. 69). The colonist’s profound response was (1) because the Stamp Act placed a tax on goods used by those of higher education like merchants and lawyers rather than just layman; (2) because the tax was also passed in March and did not go into effect until November of 1765, which gave colonists an ample amount of time to organize against it; and (3) because the imposed tax was to pay the salaries of colonial officials rather than to regulate trade, which was a clear undermining of the colonial self-rule and an indication that Parliament was attempting to limit colonists’ liberties (Schultz, 2011, p. 69). Themed as “no taxation without representation,” colonists convened the Stamp Act Congress in October 1765 in which they vocalized their opposition to the tax. Most colonists called for a boycott of British goods, and some organized attacks on customhouses and homes of tax collectors (History.com Staff, 2009).
"It will be my sincere and constant desire to observe toward the Indian tribes within our limits a just and liberal policy, and to give that humane and considerate attention to their rights and their wants which is consistent with the habits of our Government and the feelings of our people." -- Andrew Jackson’s speech about the Indian Removal Act of 1830 in 1830. The Cherokee are a Native American Tribe that live in Oklahoma and North Carolina, and have lived there for decades. In 1830, Andrew Jackson (the president during this time) was mad because the Cherokee Indians had been hurting and scalping people in Georgia. Because of this, Jackson put up the idea of a removal act, a way to get the Cherokee to either move out of Georgia or abide by state law.
The 1906 Pure Food and Drug Act prevented the manufacture, sale, or transportation of misbranded or poisonous foods, drugs, medicines and liquors, and regulated the trafficking of such items. This act was ruled by the Senate and House of Representatives in Congress, and is regulated today by the U.S. Foods and Drugs Administration today. This act was very successful in improving public health, for according to the Social Security bureau of the United States, now manufactured new drugs have to be inspected and certified by appropriate personnel. This allowed for the revision of many drugs and foods, and got rid of many drugs that used strange and unusual ingredients. This included the banning of cocaine cough drops and soothing syrups that contained
When the United States federal government began to intervene in the food and drug businesses, the history of early food regulation in the United States started with the 1906 Pure Food and Drug Act. This was the first of significant consumer protection laws that were enacted by the federal government in the 20th century which also led to the creation of the food and drug administration. The main purpose was to ban foreign and interstate traffic in the adulterated or the mislabeled food and drug products. It is directed by the US Bureau of chemistry to inspect products and to refer offenders to prosecutors.

The Indian Reorganization Act of 1934 ended the allocation of lands to individual Native Americans, encouraged them to preserve their culture, and to develop their own governments. It allowed tribes become sovereign nations. This act created a cultural resurgence but halted economic progress for the tribes. The political structure of the tribes were also unstable and
For my research task the fast food restaurant I have chosen is Nandos because Nandos originates here in South Africa. The quality of their food has always been good, have never a problem with Nandos in terms of service. I’m going to look at their concept of insurance and how it’s implicated for business. I will be also be looking at crime situation in our country and how it affects businesses and how does insurance related to the situation. Also I will take a look at two different types of insurance, know as compulsory and non compulsory.
Statistics show that today there are over 1.7 billion members of the “consumer class”- half of them being in the developing world (2011, the World Watch Institute). Being part of the consumer class myself, I believe it is crucial to dispense a great deal of money on goods and services to improve the economy here in Canada. Does this mean I’m considered to be a consumer as a result of my views on world consumption? Yes, I fit into the category of a consumer due to the fact that I’m part of the endless cycle of supply and demand. From the moment I leave my house and walk the two minutes to the bus stop I’m already thinking about what I’m going to buy.
1.1 Identify the regulatory requirements, codes of practice and relevant guidance for managing concerns and complaints in own area of work. The Local Complaint Stage (1) Immediately after hearing of a complaint, contact the complainant to determine where their issues lie and what they would like to see as a result of the investigation. It is important that the local manager • Demonstrates a caring attitude and shows that there is a genuine attempt to understand the problem. • Ensures the complainant is aware of the complaint process and timelines • Provides the complainant with their contact name and telephone number • Obtains all complaint details at this point of contact to avoid the customer having to repeat themselves
1. What problems did you encounter when handling the complaint? Whenever I received complaints, the problem is that the subordinates usually deny or come up with some explanations making it difficult to discuss it in a genuine manner. Sometimes even if we reprimand them for their mistakes it creates a very tense environment in the hospital and it also affects the quality of work.
More than three billion people, nearly half of the world’s population, has an income of less than $2.50 a day. In addition, more than 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty their income is $1.25 a day. Additionally, this mind-blowing statistic stress the fact that consumer behavior may be the main reason behind poverty. The first use of consumerism term is in 1944 mutual movement in the USA in 1930s.
The reasoning behind it is to motivate employers and mangers to establish a zero tolerance policy. Managers or board members should take each complaint seriously and set good examples for other employees. Since employers are at liability in cases like this, they must act immediately and investigate complaints. Employers cannot
Some complaints might be too much and annoying to others but we don’t know why people complain the way they do. The reason is we don’t know what people went through in life. So how we look at things will be different. We all have things we complain about and some decide whether to complain or not. Some may take complaints too far over things that don’t matter.
