NEED TO REPORT DIRECT SPEECH IN INDIRECT FORM: Usually, in our day to day life, we come across reporting quite a lot of times. One standard example is that newspapers and magazines. In these, the speeches or interviews of people are reported in the indirect form. This is to put up the content of their speech or views in a nutshell, instead of long and boring passages. In this material we will take a look at the various forms of sentences and how to report them.

GENERAL FORMAT OF DIRECT SPEECH: “ I will be there to help you”, Ram said.
In this sentence, Ram said : reporting clause. Speech within the quotations : reporting speech.

But, in case of proverbs and natural truth, the sentence within the quotations is reported as such without any change in the tense form.
Example:
Our Chemistry professor said, “ Salt water conducts electricity”. Our Chemistry professor said that salt water conducts electricity. ( not ‘conducted’ electricity).

REPORTING AN INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE: Interrogative sentences are used for questioning,enquiring etc.,
Reorting interrogative sentence is a bit different.
