Throughout the passage, development of the story is created by the dialogue between husband and wife, William and Hester respectively. The story is of Hester trying to persuade William to let their sons go to the carnival and, while attempting so, discovers that they both had gone to it at the same time without knowing so. With this development, both Hester and William start to remember said circus and begin to grow together more.
