4.0 TYPES OF THERAPEUTIC ACTIVITIES FOR DOWN SYNDROME
4.1 COOKING Cooking is the application of heat to food in various ways (Nollet, 2012). According to (Corinda Presley, 2012), cooking is one of the most useful, motivating, and universal activities that it can be as simple or as complex as it would be. Cooking as a therapeutic activity can help Down Syndrome patient in improving their communication skills and facilitate language learning (Cummings, 2008). Project such as cooking is providing an overarching structure for the group sessions. The cooking activity such as making fun shaped pancakes can began by asking one patient to read the directions on the box and someone else follow the directions as they are being read. Let them guess what kind of shapes or letters are the pancakes and ask them to name things significantly with the letter or things that have the same shape

Use photograph-like recipe (Rynders, 1996)
-to help the Down Syndrome patient who have difficulty to follow a written recipe, drawings or photograph shoud be attached to recipes.
-each photograph will illustrate the individual performing a step of the cooking activity, it can be helpful and enjoyable at the same time.
-in addition, make a big size of recipes to enable the patients to see clearly. 2. Use adapted scissors (Gregoire, A Parent's Guide to Learning About Down Syndrome, 2010) -Down Syndrome patients have hypotonic or weak muscle and they are unable to cut ingredients or things normally. -So, this adapted scissor makes cutting easier for children with special needs as it will open automatically with little pressure. -It also improves fine motor development.
3. One Touch Can Opener (Floyd, 2014) -This can opener is easy to use with just pressing the button on the top of the can opener to start it. -It is good for individuals who have lack of coordination, strength, or gripping

*Have the children sit in a circle & place A4 sized photos of different breeds of puppies. Ask the children to point out the differences between each puppy, for example eye colour, fur colour, size, short or long fur etc. Ask questions of regardless of each difference would they love the puppy any less, would they be less interesting if the puppy was white or brown, just to generate a discussion. This can then lead into talking about our peers that have different coloured eyes, hair, skin & explain we are all the same but we just have differences or perhaps different beliefs etc *
A child with Down syndrome ranges from when they were born to about 12 years old. They tend to develop at a slower rate in comparison to the typical developing child. Physical needs include sitting alone from up to 6 – 30 months, crawling at 8-22 months and standing from either 1 up to 3 ½ years. Physically their gross motor skills and fine motor skills are delayed in development which is why it is important to see a physiotherapist from the 1st or 2nd month after birth right up until they can ride a tricycle.
Although having Down syndrome implies an intellectual disability, Down syndrome individuals are able to be autonomous and live a full life integrated in society. It has been previously stated that an improvement in the educational system in which Down syndrome individuals are educated, by encouraging the inclusive educational system where special-needs students are able to share classes with regular students, will be beneficial for those students in their future years of life. Furthermore, promoting simple directions jobs that Down syndrome individuals are able to perform while earning a salary for themselves as well as the creation of more public living spaces for special-needs adults to live in, at the same time as being medically assisted, will make a difference in the quality of life of Down Syndrome individuals as well as in our society by making this world a better one. Last year I worked with kids who have Down syndrome and Autism. I showed them how to play football, soccer, and basketball. While it was rewarding for me, it was even more rewarding for the kids. After a few weeks of basketball, Tom, a kid with Down syndrome, was making shots more often than my basketball team was. From then on, playing basketball put a smile on his face because he knew that his skills wouldn't be looked at differently because of his disability.

A patient may dislike the texture of certain consistencies of dough and the therapist may incorporate this into their therapy plan to help the patient overcome this phase. Sequencing abilities can also be used throughout this activity to enhance event planning and timing in a logical order. A patient may have difficulties putting the steps of baking in order and this activity can provide a great opportunity to make sequencing fun and enjoyable. Through this food diary assignment, I have learned that I have a somewhat healthy diet, but it would be good for me to add some more nutritious foods to my diet. Through this analysis, I will discuss the ranges and limits of specific nutrients, and what my average levels were for the two days that I recorded for this assignment. According to my nutrient intake reports, my intake of calories, fiber, and cholesterol were all under or at the target value. The target value of calories is 2000 while my average value was only 1271 calories.
