In learning, learners rely on the guidance, assistance and support from their educators that they feel secure from participating in the teaching-learning circumstances and finally come to be independent. ‘The learners’ level of maturity eventually determines the certain leadership state that a learner would be responsible to part-take in’ (Louw & Du toit, 2010). Although, it is a challenge to educators to understand and deal with the differences of learners in approach to their schoolwork. Coetzee & van Niekerk (2015) claim that learners’ personalities and preferences regarding schoolwork vary. Cooperative learning can be defined as a team approach to learning where each member of the group is dependent on the member to accomplish a specific learning task or assignment (UNISA, 2010). The level of responsibility from the individual learners can be assessed by the overall success of the group-work that depend up on each member of the group. Coetzee (2006) believe that this sense of interdependence and teamwork leads to increase in academic achievement for most learners, and also has the added benefit of providing opportunities for learners to improve their socialization skills and become more aware of and sensitive to cultural diversity among learners. Cooperative learning demands for communication, trust leadership and conflict resolution skills.
The educator as a leader should monitor the learner’s behavior, sharing work with other groups and reflecting on the group learning experience. At the end of the day, the responsibility for the group lies with each member for example, if a problem arise, each member exercise an effort toward solving the problem.

Experience and knowledge of learners provide an indication of their level of maturity. All learners deserve an opportunity to express themselves as per their potential and ability. As mention earlier in the essay, learners have differences. The key to successful learning is to meet the learner at the right level, the learner should find themselves at the time of engaging in learning activities. Assessment and/or Outcomes: • Students will be informally assessed during the group work. The teacher will circulate around the classroom to make sure those students have an understanding how the events and people in the situations develop over time. • Students will be given a formative assessment based off of their answers with the definition of terrorism handout. • Students will be given a formative assessment based off of the Group Work Rubric. Students will be graded based on how well they are able to work together to draw a conclusion from their situation(s).
The audience of Becoming a Learner is future or current college students. This is a wide range of people, but this story can be beneficial to all who will be in search of a job after college. By telling his audience how to become a learner before they graduate with a degree they will be able to apply his ideas and get the most out of their education. This medium is very important because it gives the audience purpose for reading the piece. If the audience was not college students or another type of learner, it would be too late for them to change the way they strive for their degree.
Kenneth Bruffee’s “The Art of Collaborative Learning: Making the Most of Knowledgeable Peers” discusses the importance of autonomous collaborative learning in classrooms, that is, when multiple individuals work together, and constructively criticize and exchange ideas in order to produce a fruitful product. With autonomy, the instructor fades into the background to allow the students to govern their learning, which circumvents the traditional view of the instructor’s authority in the classroom. Collaborative learning is being integrated into numerous fields of study, as teaching institutions are realizing that students learn best socially. 2.a) The school Governors are volunteers who ensure a school is run efficiently, they work with the school to deliver good quality education, they set the schools aims and policies whilst working with the head teacher. They also make sure the schools budget is spent correctly and the building is being run well and safely. Senior Management Team (SMT) consists of the head teacher, deputy heads and the heads of the departments. They have a collective responsibility for the efficient daily running and discipline of the school, assisting the head teacher in leadership and management and is designed to allow strategic day to day responsibilities.
One strategy that reinforces learning through collaboration is team teaching. In the classroom both teachers are positioned at the front of the classroom with different responsibilities. For example, one teacher may write notes, while the other delivers large group instruction. Through team teaching, both educators can bounce ideas off one another or show students two different methods of solving a problem. This strategy is most effective in a coteaching partnership emphasizing give and take.
The purpose of group learning and development is to ensure that all learning styles are catered for and the ultimate goal of sharing knowledge is achieved. When using a group to deliver something new each individual can call on a fellow participant to confirm understanding. 1.2 Explain why delivery of learning and development must reflect group dynamics When delivering to a group it is important to consider, what is the normal behaviour within the group? Who plays what role?
Reflecting on my educational and practical experiences, I appreciate the infinite influence that teachers have on children. I realise that children will take the skills and knowledge learnt in the classroom and use it throughout their lives. I know a teacher has to deal with many daily pressures and challenges, in the classroom. However, I feel I require the skills needed to deal with these challenges. As a teacher I hope not only to be an educator but a positive role model, whom the children can look up to and trust.
Cooperative learning model is an active process where students work in small teams/groups, each with students of different levels of ability, use a variety of learning activities to improve their understanding of a subject. Students have opportunities to actively participate in their learning, question and challenge each other, share and discuss their ideas, and adopt their learning. Ross and Smyth (1995) describe successful cooperative learning tasks as intellectually demanding, creative, open-ended, and involve higher order thinking tasks. In this model, it is essential to create a positive climate where interpersonal skills can be promoted so that positive emotions will be fostered among learners. Introduction Education has been around since the beginning of time. It answers the question of what we need to know in order to survive in our society. In today’s era, we do not necessarily need to learn the same skills as the olden days. The Book Saber Tooth Curriculum book was written by Harold Benjamin who was known by the pseudonym Peddiwell in 1939 (Ward, 1999). The book uses humor to talk about education.
Schools are the second place after home where students’ behavior and future educational success are shaped. At schools there are many elements or factors that can influence the teaching and learning process that may take place. Rasyid (2012) stated that there are four perennial truths that make the teaching and learning process possible to take place in the classroom. If one of these is not available, there will be no teaching and learning process, though the learning process itself may still take place, they are: (1) Teacher, (2) Students, (3) Material and (4) Context of time and place. All of them are related to one another.
It is one of the most effective forms of learning. Working in isolation is very restrictive and gives a slow progress. Critical thinking is also encouraged when learners work in groups. Through collaborative activities such as writing, debates, group projects and more they learn to work together and to respect each other contribution. The traditional relationship between student and teacher is changed with collaborative learning.
