Core Competency in Psychology The paper under review presents a study on how well the high school course in psychology prepares students for the first college course in psychology in college. The research is presented in a brief and articulate manner with the relevant statistics given for the significance of the study (Buskist, Culpepper, Daniels, DeBray, Payne, & Rossi, (n.d). The high school course in introductory psychology has been in existence for a longer traceable period with the number of students pursuing the course increasing over the years with the trend predictable for the future. Before administering the exam, a questionnaire was given to gain data about the students and to support the selection and categorization of the subjects. Multiple-choice questions were then conducted as an examination of standard concepts in introductory psychology. The possible hypothesis of the study based on what the research responded to is that taking a high school course in psychology is useful in preparing students for the college course in psychology. The dependent variable is the effectiveness of the college course in psychology whereas the independent variables include pursuing high school course and the topics covered in psychology. The sampling method used was non-probability purposive sampling technique, with only those who have or have not taken a high school course being eligible (Buskist, et al., n.d). The presuppositions I had before taking this class concerning the history of psychology were based on the things I had learned previously about the founding fathers of psychology. The thoughts that I had were that many of the founding fathers were not very stable themselves. I also had learned that there was a lot of cocaine abuse in those early days, which added to my disrespect for some of the people who had been instrumental in launching psychology as a scientific study. In addition to the lack of faith in the character of these founding fathers, I had also come to the conclusion that they had very little solid data for their conclusions and even among their peers there was a lot of skepticism regarding their conclusions. Without measurable research based on solid data and controlled studies that the field of psychology has had to fight hard to become a reputable science.
Psychology is involved in our everyday lives. The definition of psychology is the study of behavior and mental processes. An example of psychology is talking to new people around you. You talk to each person differently than you do with your family and your close friends. Also, you can learn how to deal with different new situations that we can face.

The article provided no detail on how the studies were done, it only included the conclusions. C) The article does not say how many subjects were in the studies that universities conducted. It is unsure whether the studies from the universities can be valid. I would assume the populations that were used in the studies were college students.

As a naturally curious child, I was always intrigued by the whys and hows of the world. This curiosity only grew after I decided to study psychology. Psychology appeared foreign to me when I finished school. I can still vividly picture myself examining my application form and wondering what this subject would teach me. I was completely taken aback when my professor entered the room and introduced the subject.
As an Early Educator, I see children as flower buds, that need my undivided attention and love. They need a safe and rich environment so they can blossom into strong and confident flowers. Like flowers, there is diversity among them, and it is my duty to accommodate and meet the needs of each flower, in order to help them grow. I see children as curious and active learners, and my job as an educator is to provide a safe and rich environment, where children can explore freely. I strongly believe in forming secure attachments with each child, to provide that comfort they need to explore the world around them.
In the article, National Survey of High School Psychology Teachers: Executive Summary, the author discusses statistics of high school psychology teachers in America. There are several different factors that the survey received information for. This survey was held December 2011 through March 2012 with 1,087 participants. The survey tested on demographic characteristics, resources and opportunities, classroom issues, future trends, professional development, and future research. In the demographic characteristics, the sub-categories were school characteristics, years teaching, teachers’ educational background, certification, courses taught, psychology courses in the school setting, becoming a psychology teacher, and national board certification.
eek 5 The book mentions that the purpose of a biopsychosocial assessment is to help identify supports or interventions an older adult could benefit from and identify those areas which the older person may be at risk (p. 83). After the assessment is completed, then services need to be provided to help support the older person, so they can function as independently as possible. In my time working in the nursing home setting, I have spent a great deal of time completing these assessments and focusing on the areas which a person needs assistance.
