The hospital opened three years ago and had experienced several bouts with growth and expansion. During this time, associates and leaders were hired that were not a strategically a good fit for the organization. Therefore, I would consider our individual hospital as weak culturally. Parnell describes a weak culture as one that “lacks values and ways of thinking that are widely accepted by members of the organization” (2014, p. 297).

I have worked with medical students who come from the UA COM-P culture and I believe they bring a great amount of cultural awareness to their role on the healthcare team. The focus of early clinical exposure at UA COM-P makes a significant difference in learning how to care for people. The UA COM-P emphasis on cultural diversity allows for more learning opportunities and fully encompasses what it means to take care of the patient and not just treat a disease. I entered the medical field wanting to be at the bedside helping people. I think this gives me a unique view, and ability to help contribute to UA COM-P diversity centered training and culture.
The Importance of a Company’s Culture The culture of a company is one of the most important and sometimes overlooked factors in an organization. Accountability: A literature search was carried out to find a definition of accountability using the BNI and CINHAL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) ‘accountability’ was inputted into the databases. 18,114 results from search engine BNI and 16,725 results were produced from CINHAL respectfully. Results were reduced as filters were applied (see appendices 2). Filters were applied, before titles, abstracts and whole articles were reviewed, this was the case for Mullen (2014) on CINHAL.
Boost Juice is an Australian organisation that specialises in making juice, but has also recently opened ‘Salsa’ stores as well. They started in 2000 and since then have opened 250 stores in 12 different countries (Boost Juice, n.d.).
