Our country is plagued by many catastrophic, socio-economic issues like poverty, terrorism, illiteracy and corruption. The involvement of the youth in overcoming these problems is of great importance. But sadly, youngsters have been caught in cases of misdeeds. Recently, in Delhi, five young men were convicted for thrashing an Air force officer for overtaking the latter’s car. Two engineering students were held on charges of snatching mobiles and chains from women in posh areas of the city because they wanted to have a flashy lifestyle but did not have the money. Police claimed to have arrested over 38 youngsters hailing from well-to-do families and good educational background on different charges like pick-pocketing, auto-lifting and chain/mobile or purse snatching this year alone. They not only guide the child in its progressive path but also demonstrate the appropriate behavior by their actions. Thus, the quality of value education can be enhanced by involvement of parents. Educational institutions should encourage parent associations wherein parents can have representatives and put forward the issues and the institution takes it up seriously. The attitude of teachers and how they interact affects in the personality building of students to a great extent. Teachers should make students realize that being a good person is more important than getting a seat in a prestigious institution. Education should teach that along with success, the path taken to reach success is equally important. Students must be made aware that there is no shortcut to success and hard work is the only key to success. One cannot attain success without proper values.
