Our country is plagued by many catastrophic, socio-economic issues like poverty, terrorism, illiteracy and corruption. The involvement of the youth in overcoming these problems is of great importance. But sadly, youngsters have been caught in cases of misdeeds. Recently, in Delhi, five young men were convicted for thrashing an Air force officer for overtaking the latter’s car. Two engineering students were held on charges of snatching mobiles and chains from women in posh areas of the city because they wanted to have a flashy lifestyle but did not have the money. Police claimed to have arrested over 38 youngsters hailing from well-to-do families and good educational background on different charges like pick-pocketing, auto-lifting and chain/mobile or purse snatching this year alone. From graduates to post-graduates, educated youth have been involving in crime to enjoy their lives. If the police records are to be believed, 28 out of 118 auto-lifters arrested by the police on charges of auto-lifting in the last 11 months are educated. One third of them even had professional degrees under their belt. This highlights that they do not have patience, there is a lot of anger in them and the only problem is that they are directing this anger in the wrong direction. According to the latest figures from the National Crime Records Bureau, youth in the age group of 18-30 were responsible for 41 per cent of the total heinous crimes - murder, rape, burglary, dacoity and kidnapping.
