I can hear my mom scream from upstairs. My heart stops, immediately knowing her upset. I look at the pair of scissors in my right hand and the long strands of hair I hid behind the desk. Almost instantly the basement door swings open and I’m sent to my room for punishment. At only 5 years old I had secretly chopped my little sister’s hair off; again. These impulses to use my little sister’s as barbie dolls has very much shaped my career path.
As I got older, my family started to see I had a real talent for doing hair. I started taking cosmetology through boces in 11th grade and have been very successful through it. I love what I do because I can make people feel good about themselves. How they look on the outside very much affects how they
I wanted to run to her and hug her, but I was terrified that I would remind her of Mimi and make her cry again. “Why don’t you go play? I’ll go take care of your mom.” I obediently went to my room to dress my dolls, but when I heard my mother’s quiet sobs I ran to the door. Peaking through the door, I saw my father helping my mother up the stairs and back behind the locked door.
I was sitting in the tattoo parlor with my head resting on the black leather chair staring at my mom from the corner of my eye. I could not tell if she wanted to curse everyone in the room or cry, I came to the conclusion that it was it was probably both. In my mom’s words, I was getting a hole drilled into my nose. In my words, it was a nose piercing. This was the biggest fight I’ve ever had with my mom.
CF: I decided to become an actor after stepping on stage for the first time in grade eleven. I was playing "Juliet" from Romeo and Juliet in a comedic retelling of the story. Basically,
I have always enjoyed the art of cosmetology because it helps bring out people's features, makes them feel more confident, and there's always different looks for everyone. I remember when I would get my hair done, being so intrigued by the art that came from it. How changing the color of someone's hair can change there whole look, or how a simple haircut can bring out certain face features. When I first started doing hair and makeup, I was not very good, but the more I kept practicing the better I got. On the other hand I have always been pretty good with doing hair.
Have you ever heard of a cosmetologist? I bet you know what it is. The word is a little difficult but a cosmetologist is someone who styles hair, works on nails and provides skin services. Some cosmetologists are perm or hair color specialists, manicurists, pedicurists or a combination of all of those roles. There are lots of different careers that deal with styling hair but cosmetology comes with many more options and a wider variety of things to do.
Since the age of 14 I knew being a cosmetologist was what I wanted to do I have always been very passionate about beauty I have always enjoyed the feeling of doing someone's hair or nails one of my favorite things was watching my friends faces after I did a manicure and how they love the designs and them being so amazed at my great work. It is such a great feeling to make someone feel that way. I have had numerous people tell me a cosmetology is my calling. But I already knew that. I could sit here and go on and on about everything I love about cosmetology but that would be a very long essay.
Cosmetology has always interest me because of its good benefits. Cosmetologist who succeed in their business enjoy the opportunity to build relationships with clients. Trade shows and educational seminars, many cosmetologist use trainings venues to stay up with updates. Different ethnic groups are born with different types of hair, and hair textures and it will boost up more credibility. Also, comfortable work environments, flexibility, room for growth, and it is a oriented work environment.
Quickly, my siblings and I woke up. We heard loud arguing and ruckus from my parent’s room. Another sleepless night because my dad had come home sozzled and heated. This had become the norm in my home. My dad’s addiction was not only affecting him, but affecting his family as well.
and soon I began to actually enjoy her career along with her presence. My whole life I had never been the typical little kid with a dream job, but as I approached 13 I knew this is what I wanted to do. I wanted to follow in her footsteps and pursue a career in cosmetology. Tami began to see my passion, she bought me a manikin head and told me to practice on the fake hair. Tami helped me find my passion.
She quickly darted into the now foul-smelling kitchen as fast as she could. She noticed a pot of soup on the stove and a bloody blanket on the table. She recognized it as the one she had wrapped her baby sister in before she left for work that morning. She was trying not to think about what happened to her family as she grabbed the largest kitchen knife she could find. She ended up knocking over the entire rack as she grabbed the blade in her panic.
Ruth Handler says, “My whole philosophy of Barbie was that through the doll, the little girl could be anything she wanted to be. Barbie always represented the fact that a woman has choices” (Handler 1). Many people argue that Barbie is an exceptional role model for young girls and shows them that they can be anything they want to be. It is true that Barbie has around 130 careers; some of those jobs are often jobs that are dominated by men. However, in a recent study young girls were given two toys, Mr. Potato Head and Barbie.
I sit on the toilet lid and turn towards the small moldy shower so that my mom can curl my hair. It seems as if I’m sitting in the bathroom for years, it took my mom forever to curl my long chocolate-brown hair. Finally, she curls the last piece of my long, healthy, luscious hair. I look in the mirror and squeal and twirl my hair, “ I LOVE IT!”.
The new career Barbie dolls could positively influence younger girls and potentially boys. I think making the Barbies have a more normal and realistic "life style" will teach children to pursue their dreams. It will get children thinking about their future at a younger age, which could help them later in life as they go through schooling and start their lives in the work force. I think that the Barbie company should introduce more jobs such as: a firefighter, construction worker, and other jobs that are thought of as jobs only for men. That way as girls grow up they Will not be ashamed of wanting to pursue one of those careers because Barbie did it too and she is an influential figure to young children.
Molly, at the tender age of ten Molly was dropped off at her grandmother’s house to live, after she had made her stepfather angry by not allowing her little brother in her bedroom. Her stepfather was angry he removed her bedroom door because his son a four years old, could enter Molly’s room anytime he wanted to. Molly’s stepfather did not like her, and he did not want her around he wanted her to be gone. Molly was a cute little girl with pretty brown curly hair with big brown beautiful eyes she was medium height, and average weight for her age. Molly’s grandmother was in Vacaville from Mesa, Az.
As a teenager, I tried to imitate all things Barbie from her blonde hair to her perfect physique. I am such a huge fan on all things Barbie. I enjoy collecting Barbie dolls as a hobby. I first started collecting Barbie dolls when my aunt gave me one as a gift when I won third place in a school quiz bee. From then on, Barbie and I were inseparable.
