After reading the text it is clear that assessment is a part of counseling. According to our text assessment should be applied through out the counseling process. We must begin by initially assessing the client’s problem(s). This simply means that we must use both formal and informal assessment to get a good and accurate understanding of the individual’s problem. I believe that this is the most crucial part of assessment in the counseling process because if you do not have an accurate understanding of the problem it will negatively impact your counseling. You will not be helping the client in the ways that they need and this could immediately cause your client or student to not feel comfortable with you and the counseling process. The
“Client assessment is not just a piece of paper”(M5: Assessment) which essentially means the assessment encompasses many standard and non-standardized tools. “There must be a logical connection between the assessment and programs delivered to clients” (M5: Assessment), entails the tools used are causing a positive effect and meeting client goals. This principle links with principle four, which states, “client placement into programs should be based on assessment results not just opinions”. These are closely related because the TRS should not be choosing interventions just because they prefer it but because they know there is a connection between the intervention and clients goals. Another principle is the tool “should provide baseline information”(M5: Assessment) in which the TRS can make inferences about whether the client is progressing or regressing based on the baseline information gathered.
As the counselor reviews the screening questions, she will identify the need of each participant. As the counselor is reviewing the screening questions and her notes she will start getting a better understanding of what group she wants to
This research paper is about the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), which police departments use to increase officer safety and to provide diversion alternatives for incarceration. After deinstitutionalization, people with a serious mental illness sought treatment in the community. However, people with a serious mental illness found it difficult to reintegrate back into society and community resources were not prepared to accommodate those with a serious mental illness. Often, people with a serious mental illness do not receive proper treatment. Without proper treatment, challenges arise, which increases the chance of interacting with law enforcement and the criminal justice system.

Mental Health counselor is the best career for me because it will bring me personal satisfaction, financial stability, and abilities to help others. First, a career as a mental health counselor would bring me personal satisfaction. In 7th grade, I started noticing deep cuts on the arms and legs of my fellow students, and dealt with those who felt like there is no hope for them. I’ve had to sit there and watch as those I care about fall to depression and beg to die, knowing there is very little I can do to help them.

This is a summary of my learning whilst being on the foundation degree. I am finally at the end of my counselling degree and I think this has been my biggest accomplishment to date, alongside raising my boys. I have learned such a lot about myself and gained a better insight into how and why I relate to others the way I did and still do. In my PDP presentation, I talked about client work, supervision, peers, Personal development group, and personal therapy so I will just summarise these in this essay.
As I learn more about counseling theories, I realize that it is important for a counselor to not act as an expert on a client’s life, rather, this role is solely
Ryan Giltner PSY 3211 2/5/2016 Weekly Paper #1 Group therapy is an integral part of psychology and like couple, family, or individual therapy there are many moving parts that allow the machine to work. Group therapy can be extremely helpful for many different populations of people like recovering alcoholics or veterans. Group therapy allows people to share their stories and engage with others who have similar experiences. When my grandmother died, I spent a lot time talking with my parents and other family members about her life and how she affected mine.
Possible consequences are that the counselor could harm the client by not providing the professional services needed as general counselor in a small community. Option 2 and Consequence: The counselor could accept to seek the client which is a close friend of the counselor, and provide the professional services that the counselor is trained to provide, including explaining the client the benefits of the services, limitations, consent, confidentiality, and responsibilities. The consequence could be if the client still sees the counselor as a friend and not as a professional counselor and they could eventually stop coming for sessions and affect the friendship in the long run. Option 3 and Consequence: The counselor could explain to the client (which is the counselor’s friend) the reason why the counselor could not be beneficial for the client; and that the client should seek counseling with a person that the client doesn’t have a friendship with. The counselor needs to avoid doing harm to the client and promote wellbeing for the client.
Counselling is a talking therapy that involves interactive relationship of client and counsellor. Counselling offers opportunity for clients to talk to the counsellor about their problems and feelings in a confidential environment. A counsellor generally helps the clients to see things from a different perspective and find their own solutions based on their own beliefs. The main aim is to enable the clients to develop a better understanding of self and be able to make changes to cope with difficulties in their lives, by reaching their own decisions and act upon them accordingly to develop a satisfying life.
In this semester, I have been exposed to the subject of Introduction to Guidance and Counselling which is a new field of study for me. After I have received this lesson, I can relate my experiences with what I have learned. Not only that, I also have different perspective towards after I learned this subject. The aspects that I can relate my experiences and thoughts with are the differences between advice, guidance and counselling as well as the goals of counselling.
