Courage is having strength in the face of pain or grief. In the book called Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, Mildred Taylor did a great job showing how Cassie Logan has courage and that she can stand up for what is right. Cassie showed courage when she was in Strawberry, going up against Lillian Jean Simms (her enemy), and helping TJ even though her was really mean and rude to her. Cassie Logan was a southern girl who lived in Mississippi. She didn 't like being told what to do
In the first Act, Abigail manipulates the girls into helping her lie about the forest “incident” in the beginning of the play. "Now look you, all of you we danced and Tituba conjured Ruth Putnam 's dead sisters, and that is all. Mark this let either of you breathe a word and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you." (Miller I, 20). In this quote, Abigail becomes aware of what she did in the forest along with the girl and threatens them to keep silence if they want to keep their lives.
Cassie showed courage when she stood up to Mr. Barnett, tried to help Little Man by explaining his actions, and helping T.J. when he betrayed their family. She has shown that is very courageous and outspoken girl by standing up for things that she believed, even if she knew what was going to happen to her for her speaking out. Also, she helps others if they do not deserve it or if they are in real trouble. Have you ever had the courage to confront someone who wronged you? Well, Cassie Logan, a little black girl, stood up to Mr. Barnett, a white store owner, because he would not get to their order.
Courage is resistance to the fear that surrounds you. Throughout the book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, Mildred D. Taylor, uses Cassie Logan as a character that displays courage and stands up for what she believes in no what challenges come her way. Cassie reveals her courage by standing up for Little Man, and saying that she´ll hurt whoever hurt Papa, and standing up to Mr. Barnett. Cassie is a smart, sassy and outspoken girl, her personalities help her achieve her convictions. Would you ever stand up for your brother or sister even if you knew that you would get in trouble?
Proctor realized the truth behind everything and decided it was time to come forward and tell Danforth, “She thinks to dance with me on my wife's grave! And well she might, for I thought of her softly. God help me, I lusted, and there is a promise in such sweat. But it is a whore's vengeance, and you must see it now” (Miller ). John tries to reveal who Abigail really is but it does not help the lives of those who are to be hanged.
All Sarah ’s life she was taught that slaves are not equal to whites, but she still fought for them. She stood up to anyone that was against her even her family. Sarah went out way of her and sacrificed things to save others. Throughout the novel courage helps the characters get through difficult situations.
Dedé must now tell the stories of her sisters to anyone that asks. Through telling the stories of her sisters Dedé continues to learn about her courageous kin and their impressionable lives. Dedé begins to feel more and more brave, her and her sister Minerva and Manolo used to play a game called “Dark Passages” as children. The dare was to walk past the railing into the pitch blackness of the night, Minerva would take off into it and win every time. Now as Dedé is standing there alone while Minerva’s daughter Minou is on the phone, Dedé narrates “I walk off the porch into the grass, so as not to overhear her conversation, or so I tell myself.
(Miller 12). This quote shows how Abigail has changed and what she’d do if she was confronted with such a situation. She made the decision quickly and opted to only save herself. Over the course of the book it gets represented pretty well that she is capable of doing everything to hold up her reputation: she wants to be a saint. Every decision she makes is like a little test that shows what kind of person and friend she is.
Mother-daughter relationships are complex and diverse. Some mothers and daughters are best friends, for they can talk through everything and share their secrets. Others have to keep a distance to avoid conflict. The relationship between La Inca and Belicia was unalike from the relationship between Belicia and Lola because La Inca was not Belicia’s mother and she raised Belicia with culpability for Belicia abusive childhood. There for, La Inca acted as a permissive parent, La Inca gave Belicia a few rules, but La Inca never unforced them.
Her choices and priorities in life are changed because of this growth. In her childhood, she is introduced as kind, rebellious and fearless child. This rebelliousness is continued through her adolescence. She chooses not to follow the southern community standard of a lady and she decides to rake her own road. She does not stop her obsess with relationships even though she knows how much it is unacceptable in the Southern community and that proves her liberal free mind.
I myself do believe that one bad person can rub off in a community. For example, back in Salem, four girls started telling people that they were bewitched by people they hated and other people went along with it to either keep themselves alive or to get rid of other people they hated. It shows that where one person goes bad others can and will follow. If Abigail had never forced the others to follow her lead and either tell the truth or convince everyone that they were just dancing in the woods then everything would have been just fine. She should have realized all the problems it would have caused when she started all that, but if she did, she probably wouldn 't have cared either way.
When Eugenia awoke she was greeted by her mother Jessique. All her mother said was ‘quickly where leaving.” On the ride home jessique explained to eugenia that she had disrespected his mother and have brought shame to their kingdom. Jessique finally told eugenia everything that she was a demigod, numbecko was a god and how jessique had made a deal previously to keep her kingdom stable but it requires you to be married to a god. Eugenia overwhelmed with all this information ran into the forest listening to the crunch of leaves under her feet.
We have to have courage when things get hard, even if no good comes from it. During reading the novel, “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry”, Mildred D. Taylor explains how a nine year old girl shows courage throughout the book. Mildred shows Cassie’s courage by writing about how Cassie stood up for her little brother, how she stood up for her rights at Strawberry, and how Cassie was always there for T.J., even though T.J. was a bad person. These points show how Cassie proved her courageousness to her family, friends, and the readers. “Whip!”
Courage can be interpreted in a lot of different ways. To different people, it means different things. Courage’s ‘official’ definition is “The ability to do something that frightens one; strength in the face of pain or grief.” This definition is adequate to some, but others interpret courage as a wide array of other things. Courage could be trying something new, doing what you want regardless of others opinions.
