Module 1 of the course focused on the fundamentals of reading, specifically how students learn to read, the theories surrounding how children learn to read (Verbal Efficiency Theory, and Simple View of Reading) orthographic mapping, the effect of spelling instruction in developing phonemic awareness and learning to read affects a child’s brain.
