I have chosen to apply to Covenant College because I seek a deeper relationship with the Lord that transcends into every area of my life, and I believe that I can facilitate that growth with the Christ-centered curriculum and community Covenant has to offer. I see the importance of being a witness to Christ at a secular university, but during my college education I want to better equip myself to proclaiming Christ in my profession and day-to-day living. Throughout the next formative years of my life, it is important to me to surround myself with young people who serve the Lord. Encouraged by conversations with my admissions counselor and information on the website, I believe I will easily mesh into the dynamic that exists at Covenant and cultivate lasting relationships. In addition, I tremendously value access to nature. When I visited Covenant College in the spring of 2017, I was surrounded by beautiful mountain vistas and learned of all the opportunities for nature exploration around Chattanooga. I am happiest when hiking a new trail or watching a mountain sunrise, and I believe Covenant College will adhere to those aesthetic values. …show more content…
I have a wide array of academic interests and love to be challenged, and I work best when I have material that requires thorough contemplation before reaching a conclusion. A liberal arts education will give me the opportunity to gain a foundational knowledge of a diverse range of subjects, and will allow me to learn for the sake of learning. So often I see students fall into the trap of seeking a degree solely for the paycheck, and that is not what I intend to do at Covenant College. I want to pursue Music Education while also exploring my interests in writing and the sciences, and a liberal arts education will grant me that
In this essay that Ken Saxon writes, he talks about the liberal arts approach to college. He goes back and gives examples from his own life and how his college and after college careers played out. He is attempting to reach out to college students and high school students who are about to go to college. His purpose is to get more students to take a liberal arts approach to college. I plan to break down Saxon’s essay and see if he has anything that is helpful for me, as I get ready for college in the next year.
There are advantages to this though, someone who gets a liberal arts degree might be better at certain things such as comprehension, problem solving, and critical thinking. Many of those skills are wanted by employers when they are looking to hire a college graduate. On the other hand, Murray believes pursuing a liberal arts degree is a waste of time. Murray, claims are mostly valid because on average it takes longer for a liberal arts graduate to find a job, and they start off making less than the average professional career. He believes people are looking for innovators not just
In the articled titled “The New Liberal Arts” author Sanford J. Ungar states the importance of a liberal arts education and offers his critique on the common misconceptions surrounding them. Ungar offers his viewpoints on a variety of issues surrounding liberal arts educations including, the cost of the education, the usefulness of the degree, and the advantages of a post secondary education. While many people think liberal arts degrees are not worth the cost, Ungar suggests they can end up being less expensive than other larger public universities. He even claims they may be a better investment in the long run because a liberal arts education prepares you with a wide breadth of knowledge compared to a “Career Education.” Ungar also emphasizes
As a prospective member of the Masters of Arts in History program at Liberty University I hope to accomplish several things. I am currently serving as a high school history teacher and this program will benefit both my students and myself alike in the foreseeable future. This includes reaching the goals of earning my master’s degree which will result in a higher level of professional knowledge in my content area, while increasing my income simultaneously. This is not the only positive factor, Liberty’s program will also contribute directly to growth in regards to my relationship with Jesus Christ.
Liberal Education: The Decision of a Lifetime College, a decision that everyone has to make. Whether a potential student chooses to pursue college, or not, the options are endless. One of these options being liberal education. Being faced with this same decision as a graduating senior, I came to the consensus that a liberal education was the best choice for me, but certainly not for everyone. Sharing some of the same opinions, I agree with both Sanford Ungar and Charles Murray.
“Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise, I rise, I rise.,” to become a Delta Woman. When asked to express why I should be awarded the honor & pleasure of being apart this great sorority; I must admit I was a bit overwhelmed but also very humbled. However, I am reminded of the great women Delta Sigma Theta has helped mold some of the most influential women in the world. I want to be apart of the most illustrious sorority organization.
I want to embrace the challenge of USC. As a Film and Television Production major, I know that I can expect a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment. Will it be demanding? Of course. Will I occasionally feel overwhelmed?
I am most attracted to Loma Linda University’s mission to make man whole and continue the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ and its commitment to faith and science. As a Seventh-day Adventist christian, the motto to make man whole has never been more personal than it is now. As I grow in my experience as a christian, to further the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus continues to take center stage. This mission and an understanding of the need for whole person care is something I seek to demonstrate and encourage through my profession as a nurse and involvement in my community.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my application for the doctoral program at Florida Atlantic University. My interest in education began at a young age out of necessity. My upbringing was humble, and I was fortunate to have a healthy environment conducive to my education. However, that was the extent of my parents’ support.
It does not focus on the basic elements of knowledge, but rather encompasses the broader sense of knowledge. Liberal arts, described as “a conservative approach to preparation for life,” (Ungar, 2017, p. 230) prepares students for life by weighing all knowledge as equal and beneficial. Furthermore, it prepares students for the future careers they desire to pursue. Contrary to the belief that liberal arts are useless in the job field, employers desire employees with an liberal arts degree; because employers place high value on innovative employees, who can think critically within the job field. Employers recognize that a liberal arts education equips individuals to communicate effectively and to analyze various problems.
During my time at USC, I hope to not only major in computer science, but also to acquire entrepreneurial and leadership expertise. When I graduate, I hope to use my major in computer science to get a job at a technology firm to get gain a better understanding of the technology industry. After learning more about the technology industry for a few years, I hope to establish an organization using the entrepreneurial and leadership skills that I acquire from USC. The purpose of this organization would be to benefit the lives of everyday people through technology. The power of technology is immense and, if used correctly, can make everyone’s life better.
I am interested in Howard University because it is an HBCU that encompass the themes of cultural diversity and education. Your commitment to scholars ensures me that at your school I will be right at home. Since I intend on on going down a medical path, I know that Howard University will provide me with best resources to follow my dreams. As a child I was always interested in the worlds around me and how things worked. As a result I participated in a Summer Enrichment Program located at Indiana University in Bloomington.
Going forward a liberal arts education will be key for me to attain my goals. Specifically a Hollins liberal arts education. I am interested in pursuing pre-law, creative writing, art, and equine studies. At a typical technical based studies program I would be unable to study and learn what I 'm passionate about. It has been said that if you choose a job you love you will never have to work another day, and I fully intend to live my life with zeal doing what I love and am truly passionate about, and a liberal arts education will help me achieve that.
I will acquire a B.S. Chemistry major through the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Science. I want to apply this knowledge in the undergraduate research opportunities offered at USC. Specifically, I would like to take part in the USC Women in Science and Engineering research program. The USC WiSE research program is offering a supportive environment for men and women who plan to build a career in the science and engineering; I want to take advantage of this supportive environment. I want to pursue a career as a researcher, and I know this program will help me develop a successful career as a researcher.
I found Cedar Collage highly impressive in terms of the fact that it offers subjects such as Philosophy years in advance of Unviersit it's provision at collage. I am somebody who is interested in engaging in learning that encourages abstract thinking and so this facet of Cedar Collage that it motivates it's students to think and act in ways that encourage personal growth, has drawn me towards it. I feel compelled to join this Collage as I feel it will steer me towards the right course in life. I have also also heard that stimulating growth is encouraged on the part of teachers, the student-teacher relationship is not merely confined to the classroom. Teachers facilitate students' interests and draw them towards fields that they feel will serve
