In 11 years at Mechanics Grove School I have been fortunate enough to teach both 4th and 5th grades. I am always seeking opportunities to increase my level of involvement and responsibility. I am the school's Capacity Builder for the Rising Star School Improvement Team. This position has required me to actively participate in each of the building Professional Learning Communities in order to communicate Rising Star Plan initiatives while at the same time gaining input as to the effectiveness of the plans in place. My ability to listen and understand has been an incredible asset in the school improvement plan process. I designed and prepared many of the materials that communicated procedures, expectations, and deadlines for the Science Fair. I facilitated the evaluation of the evening and identified items that worked for the staff and community as well as ways to improve for the 15-16 events. Preparations have already begun for the 2015-2016 Science Night events. Currently, I part of a curriculum review committee. I have engaged in conversation with my colleagues about best practices in math and helped facilitate conversations at the building level to identify the ideal program for our needs. I am also beginning the design process for a new district summer school program. Summer School 2.0 will be a web based program in which the teacher will meet with students once or twice a month to set goals and communicate via Google Classroom and email the remainder of the time utilizing online resources. I have been a go to person to help lead the building in the absence of the school principal. I have dealt with student behavior problems as well as conflicts with parents.
