Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley is about Victor Frankenstein who creates a monster. He takes the limbs of dead bodies and makes his own creature. He spends years in Ingolstadt isolating himself from the world in order that he can focus on creating this being. He doesn’t write to his loved ones back at home or even take care of his own health. All he cares about at this point is to discover something no one else has before him. When the Creature comes to life, Victor sees how ugly and terrifying he looks. He is horrified and runs away from this living thing.

On one of the few meetings with the Creature they argued about Victor making a wife for the Creature. Should he? Or should he not? The Creature promised that after the female is created they will go live far away and leave the human race alone, but what happens if the female doesn’t agree to that? What happens if they have babies, and they grow up to be evil? In their argument the Creature also promises that if Victor doesn’t create a wife for him, he will kill his entire family. After some thought Victor agrees to create a female creature for him. The Creature now watches Victor’s every move. The Creature is getting more and more excited as time goes by. With this goal, Victor and the Creature now have a similar mission. Karen Karbiener mentions in her commentary in the beginning of the book how Victor’s final request to Robert Walton is to destroy and get the monster off the face of the Earth.3 When Victor realizes he can’t fulfill his goal, he finds Walton, who he feels has the potential and confidence to fulfill his desire.
