Creative Screenplay: My Science Fiction Short Story
A friend who knew that I produce ultra-low budget science-fiction indie movies for fun and enjoyment came to my home one day for a visit. I was working on my camera rig's motion control circuit board when he surprised me with this comical look on his face. He showed me a flyer inviting prospective writers to author a science fiction short film screenplay as an entry to the indie film festival. Wow! That got my attention for sure. The winner of this competition, as the flyer reads, gets an impressive cash prize. Just being able to participate is enough for me, but on the other hand, winning a prestigious award can buy me a new Panasonic GH5 camera and

This software is called Final Draft. Final Draft is a beautiful piece of software much like a word processor for screenplays that structures the written word into different formats for television, commercials and motion picture. In my case, I had my screenplay structured for the motion picture format. It helped me point out all the flaws in my screenplay and provided me the sole discretion to correct them. It does not take away my creative writing skills, but instead, it helps me work faster and accurately.
In writing a screenplay for a science-fiction short story, I have learned the priceless values of creative imagination, research and a software tool to structure my creation. I started my journey on this creative writing endeavor with curiosity and hit many stumbling blocks along the way that at times can be discouraging, but my desire to write and see this journey to its conclusion inspired me even more. In the end, I published a formally written screenplay and submitted it to the festival competition with more time to
Dusk had come, silent, ceremonious, which brought her painful but pleasant memories in the diminishing light. Her shaking hands and arthritic fingers from the passing of time were holding the record player’s metal arm. The stylus hopped, moving lightly and quickly over damaged grooves from excessive use, landing very deep in the vinyl recording. She attempted again, one of her hands embracing the other, to the point where the overture’s rewarding hop and crepitation signified the precise spot. The incongruous speakers passed a faint melody of music.
Writing is hard work and a skill one had to constantly practice. : Zinsser’s writing demonstrates that writing is difficult, he gives clear solutions to issues that plague writers, he also makes a compelling argument for why clutter is an issue that needs to be resolved. Zinsser with his various achievement has proved that he is a competent writer. Zinsser was educated at the esteemed, Princeton University. He worked as the New
The Outsiders Sequel When I turned in my essay, my English teacher looked at my work in surprise. He flipped through my 7 pages of writing, and then set it on his desk. He said I could leave for the day, and that he would grade it as soon as he could. It was almost four o’clock, and Darry would kill me if I didn’t come home by four thirty.
Google made me stupid because I googled all the test answers and failed my test. Nicholas Carr, an American author, wrote “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” published in 2008 in The Atlantic, and he argues about the effects of the Internet on literacy, cognition, and culture. Carr starts his argument by taking an ending scene from a movie called A Space Odyssey. Carr uses logos throughout the whole essay, but also gives himself credibility by giving evidence that he knows what is going on in his mind. I feel that this argument is effective.
The Other Wes Moore Wow! I feel like I knew Wes or people like Wes. Many boys like Wes grew up in my neighborhood. There were boys who tried to be cool so they hung out with the bad boys. We knew they were not bad boys nor were they cool.
R is for Reserve Grand Champion Every year my family and I go to the Heart of Illinois (HOI) Fair. We normally enter in the Hobbies Department. What that is, is anyone can put a display together of an item on a board with a maximum amount of 10 items.
Annie Lamontt, author of Bird by Bird, offers a glimpse into a world many writers can relate to. In the chapter called “Shitty First Drafts”, she utilizes the writers she associates with as evidence to support that the writing process does not begin with an immaculate first draft (Lamont, 1994). This is the “fantasy of the uninitiated” (Lamont, 1994, p. 1). Strangers to the writing process may not understand that writing isn’t simply “writing”—it is a process. The uninitiated, in this case, are non-writers.
The moon was the only witness, along with the stars. They were the only ones that would know, and they wouldn 't tell. The ground was moist from the rain that had come early in the morning, and by the fog that stayed since then. The shovel scraping against stray rocks in the ground was too loud, and I feared that someone would hear. The hole in the ground looked like a bottomless pit, where no one would ever find a body.
After escaping from Polyphemus’s cave, Odysseus, and his crew were looking for their ship. “Oh, Captain!” exclaimed the worried men that stayed on the ship. “Are you alright sir, where have you been?” “Calm down my loyal men”, said Odysseus calmly. I’ll tell you what happened to me.
Standing on the tips of my toes, I was able to see out of a nearby window. I was perfectly right in my assumptions, and to my disappointment, the rain was pouring down just as hard as it had been for a while, now. Luckily, I was prepared. Beside the door was an umbrella, and while I knew that Tod would probably want to stay dry, I also had the knowledge that we owned more than one umbrella.
I had destroyed the majestic carpet, it was shattered in pieces while I heard a mournful scream racing around the room, the master exasperatedly grabbed my leg and ruthlessly swung me across the room into the tomb as I went into survival mode. The tomb was an old filthy cistern, buried under the court with a slippery stairway leading up to the rusty iron door covered with vines. There was no light down there besides the sun rays that managed to brutally flash through the cracks and holes. The tomb had very little air, you nearly suffocated. It feels like someone is grabbing your throat and squeezing it.
In this paper I hypothesize that A Voyage to the Moon was most innovative in cinematography and editing. Although mise en-scene was the main focus of the film, I hypothesize that mise en scene wasn’t as innovative as the other two. As mentioned earlier, mise en scene made A Voyage to the Moon easy to understand and follow along. In the first scene of the film, this power
We began this course with a discussion on definitions of science fiction, and how these definitions have developed over time. After reading and discussing almost fifty science fiction stories, I understand why science fiction is difficult to define, since how each author used science and/or technology in his or her stories was seldom the same when compared to other authors. For example, in Tom Godwin 's "The Cold Equations," Newton’s laws of motion drove the story’s conflict, and forced Captain Barton to balance a cold equation at the expense of someone’s life. Other science fiction stories used a scientific concept for a backdrop, like in Nancy Kress’s “
Script vs. Film The script developed by Davis Show is easy-to-understand and imaginative enough to build bright pictures of the events. The script is well-written as it includes such essential constitutes as detailed descriptions of the scenes, consistency of actions with the value of each scene for the ongoing events, and the vision of how those scenes must be shot along with the camera positioning and movements. Moreover, he provides special notes for actors to reach the extent of feeling the role rather than just understanding or remembering it.
Nowadays every one is a writer. We write on social media every day, we send emails and short messages. However, we are not all great writers, this is the reserve of the few that put in effort and can cleverly coin a phrase. -------------------------------- I begin my journey knowing I face a myriad of challenges.
