Creative Writing: Augustus Walkers

Gus hears his phone buzz on the kitchen counter next to him and goes to pick it up. He is sitting in the kitchen’s island at his stark white very clean house in Indianapolis. He sees that it is from Memorial Hospital as he put his phone in his hand.

“Hello,” he says as he rubs his prosthetic leg and walks over to sit on his living room couch.

“Hello, is this Augustus Waters?” said a nice lady on the line.

“Yes this is he,” he replied, just wanting them to get to the point as he bounces on the edge of the couch in his home.

“ Hi this is doctor Richard from Memorial Hospital, we are calling to ask you to come in with a family member to talk about your condition and what will be best for your future.”

“If there even is a future,” Gus thought to himself.
“Ok I

She seals the eulogy in the envelope and writes on the front:

You will find me by the river behind the hospital where Gus is being treated. Please read this for me at the funeral. I love you guys and appreciate what you have done for me more than you'll ever know.

She pulls in to her house and puts the letter on the kitchen counter. She then changes her breathing tube one last time hops in her car. She drives to the hospital and when she thinks no one is looking, climbs up the center stairwell to the roof. She pants heavily as she climbs up the stairs.
When she gets to the roof after hauling her breathing tank up the many flights of stairs. He lungs feel like they are about to explode. She looks around.

“This world was so great for those few months when I had a great man in my life,” she thinks as she spins around.

“I went all the way to Amsterdam and got to be their for Gus. Now he gone,” she thinks.

“Now it’s my time too.”
She slowly takes off her breathing tube and takes one last spin to see the world she is about to
