Creative Writing: The Rocky Mountain Animal Shelter

Nothing is worse than being a lonely tenth grader. Frankie Davis is the loneliest tenth grader at High River High School. Frankie is a nerd, an outcast, a loner. The only time people talk to Frankie is when they want a pencil. Frankie has frizzy hair and horrific bangs. Every person at HRHS knows that only Zooey Deschanel can rock bangs. Frankie bites her nails and is incredibly awkward in social situations. Overall, Frankie is as cool as burning lava.

Frankie has one escape from the loneliness in her life, the Rocky Mountain Animal Shelter. When other kids were going to the movies, playing sports or watching tv, Frankie was at the shelter picking up dog poop.

“ If you could take the new dog out for a walk that would be great. He is going through a hard time right now, he was abandoned by his owner last night.”

Bertha replies.“ I don’t know, the owner just dropped him off. Why don’t you give him a name?”

Frankie looks at the 3 legged dog she notices his big black eyes and his big black nose and says. “ Blackberry, his name should be Blackberry, I think it suites him well.”

Bertha hands Frankie a blue and black striped leash. Frankie takes the leash, opens Blackberry’s kennel and attaches it to his collar. Frankie opens the door and walks outside. The dog was excited to go on a walk, you could tell that his owner did not take him for walks. The dog was sweet and friendly and he walked right next to her. Frankie sees a intimidating man in a black coat approaching her.

“Gimme all your money!” the man says intensely.

Frankie is startled she doesn’t know what to do. Frankie’s chest tightens her hands get increasing getting sweaty, 5 seconds have went by, but it feels like it’s been 5 years. The man gets closer to Frankie.
