Creativity and Innovation There are various changes that young learners can adopt in preparation for college and after school life. It is important for each student to be ready for college, but not just in books. Many studies have recorded a rapid decrease in routine work. Concurrently, there has been a dramatic rise in jobs involving analytic, non-routine and cooperating communication skills. The job market needs competencies such as creativity and innovation. Previously, it was perceived that creativity and innovation was secondary in the school curriculum. However, creativity is the primary driver of today’s economy. The future is for different types of people with different types of minds; empathizers and creators, pattern recognizers and meaning makers. Such types of people will get the richest rewards in the society and share the greatest joys of the world. If learners complete their education without knowledge on how to progressively create and innovate, they will not be ready to face the society’s challenges. The world is becoming a platform for global competition and automation of tasks. Therefore, capacity for innovation and the spirit of creativity are becoming essential for both professional and personal success. In education, creativity is vital as literacy it should be treated with similar status. Successful people are those who possess creative skills, which they use in generating a vision on how they want to create a better world for every person. If something fails, lessons can be learnt from it, and then amend and attempt again. Young students should learn on how to be creative and innovative by participating in active learning activities. For example, faculties can form games and use songs, study guides and concept maps. Learning is usually effective when the student is strapped in an environment where he/she cannot get out without thinking. Other practices that students can carry out in active learning include facilitating group discussions, doing hands-on field work, and creating some questions for an awaiting exam.
