In order to reduce the crime rate and the fear of crime in all the communities of Milwaukee, WI I would use a combination of strategies. Those strategies being CompStat and the broken windows/order maintenance policing. I feel that both of these approaches will work perfectly together and not only would they decrease the crime rate but get the community to feel safer and also develop a better relationship between the police officers and the citizens. Starting with the CompStat strategy approach will bring more attention to the communities that need more policing where the crime has been happening the most. With CompStat the focus on different goals those being timely, accurate intelligence, rapid response, effective tactics, and relentless …show more content…

This theory would I would have some police officers focusing on the smaller disorders that might lead to more serious crimes. Broken windows can consent of the officers doing tasks like foot patrols. Which will make the citizens feel safer in their own neighborhood. Also by seeing certain officers on a daily basis, it will make the citizens, not view their relationship with them as “us versus them” and make them more willing to communicate about problems in the area. If we are able to identify what areas are at the tipping point of having their first broken window. Then we can set up a foot patrol and fixed the problems before the damage is done. Thus, if we take our focus off of crime fighting a bit make officers get out of their vehicles to walk the area citizens view of the police being unresponsive will change. As bad as Milwaukee has gotten we should just have our attention on the serious crimes, but we should also be focusing on the fewest crimes because those tend to be the ones that can end up getting bigger. If people think they can get away with small crimes like petty thrift then they will just keep doing it until a citizen takes a stand and ends up getting hurt or they think they're invisible and take it up a notch to robbery. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again just by doing foot patrols it has made citizens feel safer with they see an officer walking …show more content…

I would like to incorporate three different perspectives on the justice system those being rehabilitation, equal justice, and restorative justice. Starting off with rehabilitation by giving people the tools and opportunities to improve their life. For example, by looking at people that have already committed a crime or haven’t yet, but live in a bad neighborhood, we should focus on having education programs, after school activities like night basketball in a school gym. And maybe even creating a program for ex-convicts to help find just because most of the times when released from jail or prison it is near impossible to find an employer who’d be willing to hire an ex-convicts, therefore, sending them back on the streets where they are most likely to go back to committing crimes. The second perspective was equal justice which would be treating everyone the same based on their behavior that being same crime same punishments. By the officers not assuming right away that because the person is black that means they’re up to no good. This can only cause more harm than good because you give the rest of the community acting out because someone of their races was falsely accused of a crime. Then the last perspective was restorative justice, which means to heal victims, offender, and communities. The
