For my literacy interview I interview a young lady by the name of Jeanette Zamarripa. I did Ms. Jeanette because I have gotten to know her over the years. I met Ms. Jeanette at Lone Star in Tomball a while back, we had a math class together, but we never really talk to each other, until last year we have several classes together, and we did remember each other from the math class we took a while back. I think everything happens for a reason, and that the Lord put people in your path for a reason as well. We were both attending UHD. However, we have become really good friends, I feel like I have known her for years, we get along really well. I choose her for my assignment because she told me about her struggles that she face when she was in elementary school, I think her journey is inspiring and amazing and others should know about it. If she doesn’t tell you about what she’s been through you could never guess. Ms. Jeanette English and Spanish is exceptional, she is fluent in speaking and writing them as well.
My personal literacy story might be considered as a short story. My literacy story stated very young with my mother and father reading me stories before I could read; some stories that were told to me were bible stories, Junie B Jones, Magic Tree house, and of course superhero comics.
Literacy Narrative Summer 2014 I had three summer reading assignments to complete before the upcoming school year. Pride and Prejudice, Their Eyes Were Watching God, and Frankenstein. I’m thinking to myself I can definitely knock these assignments by the time school starts. I started off reading Their Eyes were watching God. “Good story so far” I thought to myself.
Literacy Narrative “Nothing is said of the silence that comes to separate the boy from his parents” (Rodriguez 69”). Silence. Silence is powerful. Silence, in a dramatic movie to make someone sit on the edge of their seat wondering what is about to happen. Silence, at a funeral of a loved one to grieve for the loss.
My relationship with literacy has been a journey all on its own. From learning how to sound out letters and words, to reading my first sentence , I have developed quite a valuable foundation and platform, that will eventually guide me to success. I have had the pleasure of experiencing a love that just continues to blossom. A love that will never fail, nor will I fail it. This love that I speak of is my passion for reading, writing and literacy as a whole.
In my literacy Narrative I will be tackling two problems. The first being my illiteracy in fanti, and the second being my struggle with speaking and pronunciation when I was little. I will be covering a small moment from preschool when I first started to struggle with pronunciation, and discuss how I fixed my english, but at the same time lost any linguistic connection I had to fanti. The second problem will more primarily be focused on in the introduction and conclusion, while the first will be the subject of my small moment.The defining moment any particular will be when my teacher talks to my parents, about me having a literacy problem with speaking english properly.At this point I still need to do some research and talk to my parents, as
My Literacy Narrative I was never truly an avid reader when I was younger. I was the oldest of five siblings and left in charge of taking care of my younger brothers and sister. I was more prone to spending time outside than reading a book. Of course, I did find myself enjoying a good mystery novel, but playing ball would always trump even a good book.
This assignment was one of the hardest paper we had to do in our quarter because, we had complete freedom on how we wanted to develop our topic. During the peer review I found out that I had done the assignment wrong and didn 't have a clear idea of what I wanted to project in my paper. I took a moment to decide what I wanted to say and started to change and remove sentences that weren 't necessary. On my first draft of my Literacy Narrative I made negative statements about my writing, which wasn 't the purpose of the assignment. After some time, I finally decided to write about my growth in writing and how I found another outlet for my creativity and where I consider myself to be good at. After I revised my work, I decided to cut the
Children covered in glitter and glue is a sight to witness. Scattered around the room are broken crayons, uncapped markers, and torn paper scraps. This image at the end of the day at a preschool means that it has been a good day. When the day had just begun the sound of feet pattering and bouncing down the hallway was perceptible. The teachers knew that when all the children entered the room and saw the table aligned with crafts every student’s eyes would light up with excitement.
When most people tend to think of being literate they think of being able to read and write. Until last week I thought the exact thing. I learned that being literate was not is not just reading and writing. It is a plethora of things that you can be literate in. My literacy is a thing that I have been doing for a long time. In 7th grade, I transferred from Bryan Middle school to Visitation Catholic School and there was not enough room in the accelerated math program, which ultimately set me behind. In high school, I found myself bored in math and knew I needed to challenge myself, so I ended up setting up a meeting with the math department head and we discussed my options. Sophomore year, I ended up taking two math classes, which was not easy; double the test, quizzes and lessons! However, by taking two math classes, I was able to get myself into a higher math class which ultimately was my goal, and achieving it was an amazing feeling.
A Learning Experience: Reading and Writing Through most of my adolescent years, reading books and writing my thoughts took patience that I lacked and a desire my mind could not want for. But as the saying goes, hindsight is 20/20. I know now that we are fortunate to have the opportunities to learn to read and write at such a young age. We are willingly and eagerly taught by our families, friends, neighbors, and teachers at school. But I find myself wondering, what about those that were not so lucky?
As a middle school student I was always horrible in math. It truly was my worst subject. Lucky enough for me I was able to pass with the lowest scores possible. As I graduated and entered high school, I realized that it was no longer that easy to pass without knowing the material. So because of this I knew I had to study and take time out to really grasp the methods and learn how to use them.
Literacy Autobiography Even though it isn’t my content area, I am a strong believer in the power of literature. This appreciation goes way back, in fact some of my earliest memories are those of my mom reading to my older sister and me every night before bed. We made our way through nearly all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books by the time I started kindergarten.
Literacy has applied over the course of my education and my life. As an education major, I believed that literacy was an ability to learn how to read and write. Furthermore, literacy has been a part of my education. I have come to an understanding that literacy is a lot more than what it seems. It’s about expressing yourself that includes your opinions and feelings. As a college student, I still feel like my literacy is evolving with every essay I write. But, through my literacy autobiography and literacy experiences. I have gained through the process of “growing up” as an educator. I 'd like to capture the hearts and minds of readers through my journey and experiences with literacy. As I take you back into the past of how literacy has grown inside me. I would one day like to show how these experiences will influence my teaching strategies.
