Critical Success Factors In Construction

797 Words4 Pages

The construction industry is dynamic in nature due to the increasing uncertainties in technology, budgets, and development processes. Nowadays, building projects are becoming much more complex and difficult. The study of project success and the Critical Success Factors (CSFs) are considered as means to improve the effectiveness of a project (Chan et al., 2004). A building project is completed through a combination of many events and interactions, planned and unplanned, over the life of a facility, with changing participants and processes in a constantly changing environment. Certain factors are more critical to a project success. These factors are called Critical Success Factors (Jain and Pathak, 2014).

These factors were grouped in to 10 groups. A structured questionnaire survey was carried out to find the impacts of various attributes and factors which affect the success of construction project. Relative Importance Index (RII) method was adopted to determine owners’, consultants’, and contractors’ perceptions of the relative importance of the identified success factors.
Beleiu et al. (2015) employed a statistical approach in order to analyze the correlation between the success factors and to rank them accordingly. A list of nineteen success factors presented in the questionnaire based on past literature was studied. The respondents were mostly project managers and project team members with various degrees of experience in managing projects and from different countries.
Nilashi et al. (2015) applied Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) to construct interrelations among 5 main criteria and 43 sub-criteria. By using this approach, the strength of interdependencies among the criteria and sub-criteria were tested. The Analytical Network Process (ANP) was then adopted in order to determine the relative importance of the CSFs, and used to identify how these factors are weighted and prioritized by the construction professionals, who are all working in different areas of the construction …show more content…

(2013) adapted critical literature review process to identify the factors affecting the success of a construction project. 173 construction journals were used for this study. All mean rankings were converted to a 5-point scale to compare rankings of success factors from different journals. Enhassi et al. (2009) conducted a comprehensive literature review to generate a set of factors believed to affect project performance in the Gaza strip. A total of 120 questionnaires were distributed to 3 groups of project participants; namely owners, consultants and contractors. The key factors affecting the performance of local construction projects were identified and ranked according to their relative
