They use harpoon gun that connects the harpoon to the shark and the barrel. By them doing this every time before the shark attacks the barrels come up. Together with, the music and the editing create great tension it keeps rising and every time the shark attacks he has his own music that brings the film from a 5 to a 10. Without sound editing this movie would not have the Hitchcock horror feel like it does Verna Fields did a great job blending everything together. Verna Fields made sure through her editing style she used would make the shark look as authentic as possible.
The idea of a shark coming up from the underneath and ripping off a limb or two is very terrifying. The use of the teeth is to give the audience the idea that this shark is harmful and will do anything to hurt anyone. Another example of how the designer used fear to drive emotions is by the use of darkness. Many of people are afraid of darkness, and in this poster, this huge shark is emerging out of the dark blue ocean showing that it is evil and mysterious. This poster for Spielberg’s film, Jaws, was innovative in many ways.
SeaWorld is one of the most visited amusement parks in the United States where families are able to get together and see animals and their trainers perform incredible stunts. However, SeaWorld has been under the flame after the public opinion of SeaWorld drastically changed after the release of the movie Blackfish by Gabriela Cowperthwaite in 2012. The documentary Blackfish helped exposed people to the reality of what was really going on behind the scenes at SeaWorld, with everything including their trainers to the overall well-being of the orca whales. Not only has Blackfish exposed how SeaWorld has shortened the lifespan of orcas in captivity, but it shined some light on how the orcas were living, how the orca’s behavior changed, how trainers
In conclusion Blackfish is gives audiences a shocking, aggressive and deeply compelling look into cruel practices of marine parks for decades that will change the way you look at captive/trained killer whales and other animals. In watching this documentary has significantly opened my eyes regarding the brutal treatment and methods of capturing wild animals giving me a greater sympathy for orcas in parks such as SeaWorld. This startling documentary will surprise audiences as Cowperthwaite is unrelenting in showing the fatal consequences of keeping killer whales in captivity while also critiquing of the cruel and immoral practises of
In 2013, Gabriela Cowperthwaite directed the documentary Blackfish. This documentary is about Tilikum, an orca from SeaWorld that has taken the lives of many trainers. The documentary makes the claim that orcas should be freed from captivity. While in captivity they are causing harm to both themselves, humans, and the other orcas. Blackfish is a great example of an argument that can be rhetorically analyzed because it has pathos, ethos, and logos.
Four Corners uses a myriad of varying persuasive techniques and film techniques to illustrate the mistreatment of detainees in Darwin’s youth detention centre, Don Dale. Four Corners is a well-known well respected current affairs television show, albeit they have expanded their programs to the internet for easier access. They are known for their high-quality professional journalism and film techniques and have won multiple awards to support this. The documentary Australia’s Shame is a perfect example of the diversity of their extensive use of persuasive techniques and film techniques. These techniques were used to convince the viewers to sympathise with the detainees.
For years people have been captured by the beauty and grace of Orca whales. SeaWorld is a big reason for this love to watch the whales before. There they have designated time slots where the whales and trainers come out and perform a show with several jumps as well as the animals will spray the surrounding audience. The whales and their trainers form a bonds with certain whales not all the whales get along with a person. A trainer from SeaWorld described it as signs that the whale would show to a certain person.
However, much of this studying could be studied in the wild. To begin with, every day at Seaworld is training orcas to play a part they are not correctly equipped, nor adapted for; this training leads up to loud, stressful performances in front of large crowds where many problem can, and do, often occur. Orcas have an unpaired, tall and triangular fin located on their back, called a dorsal fin, that is almost always collapsed or bent while
Have you ever wondered what activities you could do in Hawaii? Hawaii is considered to be the best place for vacations in the world. In Hawaii you could do a lot of things like going diving in a shallow 160ft water. You could even go fishing. Some companies offer shark encounters you could look at them inside a cage and the sharks come up and meet you. Their is also dolphin excursions and see the dolphins. You could also go on in adventure and discover new things and also you could go parachuting.Even whale watching, some boat tours if you are in the water you could go deeper to the with some scuba tanks, snorkeling, surfing.Their is more things you can do like golfing, beach hopping, hiking, helicopter tours all kinds of things.
Even I have been caught, but a very kind human saw me and quickly helped me escape. He is the reason why I know there are good humans out there and I appreciate their kindness and how they’re fighting for us. My friends are captured and soon after killed for their fins, teeth, jaws, skin, cartilage and liver oil. What’s even worse those fishers dump the body out in the ocean. The fins are used for soups that supposedly cure cancer and other diseases which is highly untrue.
I have swum with Caribbean reef sharks in the Bahamas and have seen how beautiful and strong they truly are first hand. Sharks are a vital part to every ecosystem they are in and currently being killed at a rate that they cannot reproduce at. Alpha predators are a necessary component of eco-systems because they keep the populations of every trophic level below them in check. You can compare an eco-system to a skyscraper; you need every single part so the entire building does not fall apart. Sharks have the task of killing the wounded, old, and sick fish in schools to keep the stocks of fish healthy and plentiful.
This film about these extremely diverse mammals shows true footage of the whales and what they are capable of in captivity. It also talks about a lot of wrongs that are done to the whales in captivity by people who were there and done it or witnessed it themselves. The film gives out a lot of good information and statistics that have been proven by others as well. Because this source focuses on captivity and the poor treatment of whales, as will my paper, It will come to great use when the time comes to use
Tilikum was not the only orca mentioned in the documentary but since he is well known (because of SeaWorld) caught they eye of many. Former Sealand trainers interviewed say that the park’s female killer whales would aggressively gang up on Tilikum especially when they were confined in a 20-foot-by- 30-foot pool overnight (Halverstadt). Aggressive behaviors has led to three deaths by Tilikum. Many say that this behavior comes from a aggressive side of Tilikum that is a side that doesn’t want to hurt anyone but has such a anger because he is being held captive. To be taken out of your water and away from your normal everyday living is very disturbing but what causes lots of emotions to go up is when we see that orcas are getting separated from other orcas they have lived with their entire lives or even birthed. The story that made it around the world and back, caused quite the controversy about whether orcas should be putting on shows was the senior SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau.
They use footage from different sources, showing trainers in the pool with the orcas and on the background a 911 call plays while these scenes are shown. Here Blackfish is raising the audience’s tension to believe that was the moment of that trainer’s demise. Various former SeaWorld trainers are then interviewed, and say the incidents with the trainers happened due to the aggressive behavior of the whales trying to harm the trainers. Dr. Dave Duffus also states that these attacks were a cause of the rigorous training the whales go through, making them aggressive towards the trainers. On SeaWorld’s response they state that these events were accidents, and that the cause of death was not due to the whales, but because of the trainers’ negligence.
They are being forced, and rewarded with food, love and attention. These whales are being induced to have artificial behaviors. The organization PETA stated that Sea World has been sued over keeping these mammals in captivity: “In October 2011, PETA filed a law suit against Sea World on behalf of five wild-captured orcas…” The documentary, Blackfish is a 2013 piece directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite that focuses
